Pele, the Brazilian legend and humanitarian, has been transferred to a special care unit at the Albert Einstein hospital after having treatment for a urinary infection.

The 74-year-old was admitted to the hospital on Monday and is said to be “completely fine” and in “stable” condition.

The football great had previously been discharged on November 13th after having surgery to remove kidney stones. Local media say it is possible Pele picked up an infection during the procedure and that his current treatment is a straightforward process.

Initial reports had suggested that Pele was in intensive care, but those proved to be false. Although, it’s understood that the treatment the Brazilian great is receiving is “above the level of routine care”. But it is less serious than intensive care, and the football ambassador is allowed to receive visitors.

Pele’s personal assistant, Jose Fornos Rodrigues, told Reuters: “He should be out of the hospital in a few days.”

The hospital said in a statement: “The Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein reports that the patient Edson Arantes do Nascimento (Pete) has been admitted with clinical instability. To receive the best care, he has been transferred to be monitored in a special care unit. The hospital will update when there is new information.”
