Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is rarely at a loss for words. The Sweden international has never had particularly kind words for Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola, since both the player and manager spent time working together while at Barcelona five years ago.

In his 2013 autobiography, I AM ZLATAN, the 32-year-old Malmo-born striker reserved special attention for the current Bayern Munich manager.

Ibrahimovic described a dressing room row between himself and Guardiola at the conclusion of Barcelona’s 2009-10 Champions League semi-final defeat to Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan:

“I went into the locker room after the match and I hadn’t exactly planned any frenzied attack. But I was not happy, to put it mildly, and now my enemy was standing there, scratching his head.

“Yaya Toure was there, and a few others, and then there was the metal box where we put our kit from the match, and I was staring at that box. Then I gave it a kick. I think it went flying about three metres, but I wasn’t finished yet. Not by a long chalk. I yelled, ‘You haven’t got any b—s!’ and worse than that I added, ‘You’re sh—ing yourself in front of Mourinho. You can go to hell!’

“I completely lost it, and you might have expected Guardiola to say a few words in response, but he’s a spineless coward. He just picked up the metal box, like a little caretaker, and then left, never to mention it again, not a word.

“There was just silence and mind games, and I thought, I’m 28-years-old. I’ve scored 22 goals and 15 assists here at Barca alone, and I’m still being treated like I don’t exist. Should I just sit back and take it? Should I carry on trying to adapt? No way!”

Fast forward to today, the Paris Saint-Germain talisman has once again alluded to his time under Guardiola, prior to his team’s Champions League group stage encounter with Barcelona on Tuesday.

In an interview with Canal +, Ibrahimovic recalls his Barcelona side as being “the best team in the world” in 2009-10, and that the club failed to win the Champions League because “of bad decisions made by someone” – a reference to Pep Guardiola.

“We had the best team in the world but we failed to win the Champions League because of bad decisions made by some,” the PSG striker told the French network.

“But it’s like that. It’s nothing to complain about today. You have to forget it because I had great moments at Barcelona.”

Ibrahimovic has been ruled out of the encounter against Barcelona due to a heel injury which has sidelined the striker of the past few weeks.

Although he won’t be able to suit up against his former side, the Sweden international thinks his club has been steadily improving in the European competition and are ready for their latest challenge.

“We’re still learning. The club are new in the Champions League and we gain experience. This team has been constructed in the last two years and we’ve been in the Champions League quarter-finals twice. We want to go further this year.”

“But it’s the little details which make the difference. We hope that these details will be in our favor this time. I’d be very happy if I could win it of course. After your career, you look back at how many trophies you have. If I win, i’d be great, if not, it wouldn’t be a failure.”
