Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus has been the subject of constant transfer speculation. The attacking midfielder’s contract with the Bundesliga club is set to expire on June 30, 2016.

But that hasn’t stopped a host of European clubs from attempting to pry the 25-year-old from Jurgen Klopp’s side. Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Bayern Munich have all been linked with the German international.

Dortmund have tried to secure the services of the attacking midfielder past 2016, but according to the German publication Sport BILD, Reus has told the Bundesliga club that he does not want to renew his contract and his intention is to leave Dortmund next summer.

Earlier this summer, speculation was Reus was going to follow the paths of former Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski and midfielder Mario Gotze to Bayern Munich. But the relationship between the two German clubs have become strained in recent months.

Dortmund has grown tired of seeing their players leave for the Bundesliga champions and comments by Bayern president Franz Beckenbauer in August reportedly agitated officials at BVB.

At that time, Beckenbauer commented on the possibility of Bayern signing Reus, something which is considered unprofessional when a player is still under contract at another club.

“If you can get a player of his class [Reus], you need to try it,” Beckenbauer said. “If he doesn’t go to Bayern in 2015, he will probably go to another big club like Real Madrid or Manchester United. Dortmund will probably not be able to hold on to him.”

Reus is believed to have a buyout clause of £20 million. A fact that was revealed by Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in August.

According to various reports, the moment when Beckenbauer and Rummenigge revealed their thoughts on the player was the moment that Dortmund officials decided they were no longer going to negotiate any deal involving Reus and Bayern Munich.

According to various reports in Spain and Germany, there is a deal in place which will see Marco Reus join Real Madrid next summer. The deal in principle is believed to be in place between the Spanish club and the player, with Dortmund close to finalizing the transfer.

Reus is also represented by Volker Struth, who engineered Toni Kroos’ move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

This isn’t the first time that Reus has been linked with Real Madrid. Speculation began in late August, shortly after Beckenbauer and Rummenigge’s comments about the attacking midfielder.

And with reports continuing to link Cristiano Ronaldo with a return to Manchester United, it is believe the ten-time champions of Europe are lining up the 25-year-old German international as a replacement for the reigning Ballon d’Or winner; who will turn 30 in February.

Real Madrid do have Jese Rodriguez in their squad. But it is believed that club president Florentino Perez is not convinced of the player’s quality and would like to add another big-name signing next summer.

Dortmund are also keen to complete a deal before Reus’ contract runs out, to avoid the scenario that took place when Lewandowski left the club on a ‘free’ to Bayern Munich.
