Argentinian forward, Lionel Messi, suffered a leg muscle injury as confirmed by his club FC Barcelona after their 1-0 win at Villarreal earlier today. He will undergo further testing on Monday to judge the severity of the injury. “The former (Messi) has pulled an adductor muscle in right hip, and precautionary measures will be required,” as stated on the team’s official website.
The club’s new forward, Munir El Haddadi, also sustained a leg injury when he was fouled with a hit to his right calf and will also undergo tests on Monday.
Luckily for Barcelona they have no shortage of goal-scorers, Neymar made his club debut after a back injury that ended his World Cup and helped set up newcomer Sandro Ramirez who scored within 12 minutes of being on the field. The club is also waiting for Luis Suarez to finish his football ban after controversially biting Giorgio Chellini during Uruguay’s World Cup match against Italy.
Messi has sustained a series of muscle injuries since making his professional debut for Barcelona’s first team in 2005 including a hamstring injury in April of 2013 that sidelined him for several matches toward the end of the 2013-2014 season.
