Swansea City has revealed the signing of Argentine central defender Federico Fernandez from Napoli.

The defender, who played in the World Cup, will replace Chico Flores, who joined a club in Qatar earlier this month.

Fernandez, 25, who has failed to secure a regular starting spot at Napoli in his three year spell, was a part of the Argentina squad that reached the World Cup final in Brazil, making an appearance in the 2-1 victory over Bosnia.

After helping Napoli to their Copa Italia win last season, Fernandez has moved from the south of Italy to the south of Wales on a four year deal, for a fee believed to be around £7million.

After being tipped by many to struggle this season, Swansea opened up their season with a shock 2-1 win over Manchester United. This new signing will dampen the blow of Chico Flores’ move to Qatari club Lekhwiya SC, who reunited with former Swans manager Michael Laudrup. The 25-year old international has all the credentials to make a top Premier League centre back and will be a good addition in what could be seen as a strong summer of signings for the Swans.
