Real Madrid has announced that striker Karim Benzema has agreed to extend his contract with the European champions until June 2019.

The 26-year-old has been with the La Liga giants since 2009, making 159 appearances and scoring 72 goals over the course of his career in Spain.

Last season, Benzema appeared in 35 matches, scoring 17 goals and notching nine assists while helping Los Blancos win the Copa del Rey, as well as its tenth European title.

The France international has been in the senior squad since 2007 and was part of the team that made it to the quarter-finals of this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

Overall, Benzema has 71 international caps and 24 goals during his career with Les Bleus.
