It’s not often that a Premier League club officially announces how much they’ve paid for a footballer, but in the case of Everton Football Club, the Toffees proudly announced today via its Twitter account that the club has signed Romelu Lukaku on a five-year deal for a fee of £28million.

For a club like Everton that has had to squeeze as much out of the limited money available to them for transfers, this is a huge deal. The £28million signing is a club-record fee. The previous record was the £15million Everton paid to sign Marouane Fellaini from Standard Liege in 2008.

“Romelu Lukaku deserves to be happy,” said Jose Mourinho, during a press conference today, where the Chelsea manager wished his former striker the best of luck.

The Belgium and Everton striker will wear the number 10 shirt for the Goodison Park club.
