Arsenal has finalized its fourth signing of the summer with Southampton right back Calum Chambers joining the club on a £16million deal.

The Gunners have signed David Ospina, Mathieu Debuchy, Alexis Sanchez and now Chambers in one of the busiest summer transfer windows for Arsenal in several years.

Chambers will compete with Debuchy for the right back position. However, Chambers is versatile enough where he could play in a number of positions.

Wenger said:

“[Calum Chambers] is a player I wanted because I rated his quality and intelligence. He is only 19 and can play at centre-back, right-back and central midfield. I hope he will give us competition for the players in those three positions.

“He hasn’t played many games but the English players on the market in England are very expensive, at the end of the day I was ready to take a gamble because he is a one for the future.”

With the departure of Chambers from the south coast club, the exodus at Southampton continues with the club selling five players in total so far this summer — Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Luke Shaw and Dejan Lovren, while Morgan Schneiderlin could be leaving soon for Tottenham.
