Iago Aspas, on loan at Sevilla from Liverpool, told the Spanish radio station Cadena Cope that he understands why his former team-mate Luis Suarez has been banned from playing. However, even though this latest offense is Suarez’s third time biting someone, Aspas believes that the Barcelona striker’s ban from all soccer-related activities is excessive.

“They [FIFA] are treating Luis like a murderer and not like a footballer,” he said. “There are murderers who pay less [for what they have done]. Not to let him be presented [by Barcelona], to train or to enter the stadium is too much.”

Barcelona has not been allowed to unveil Suarez because he is serving a four month ban from all soccer activity after biting Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini during Uruguay’s World Cup match earlier this summer.

Suarez was handed a ten-match ban for biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic during a Premier League match in 2013.

And while playing for Ajax, the Uruguayan international accepted a seven-match ban for biting PSV Eindhoven midfielder Otman Bakkal.
