Edinson Cavani is prepared to leave Paris Saint-Germain in favor of a move to a Premier League club after reports have emerged that the Uruguayan forward has informed his agent to find him a move to the Premier League.

Stories surfaced last season Cavani had become frustrated with his use and position on the pitch by PSG manager Laurent Blanc.

With Zlatan Ibrahimovic being preferred as PSG’s central striker, the Uruguayan was shifted out to the wing to form a front-three along with the Swede and Argentinian international Ezequiel Lavezzi.

Although the Paris club have denied that Cavani is for sale, clubs were put on alert earlier this summer when the forward left the door open in regards to his future in France.

“In football you never know. Anything can happen,” Cavani stated during the World Cup. “One day you’re in one team and the next day you can be in another.”

Manchester United and Chelsea have previously been linked with the Uruguayan.

But the speculation is that the player wants assurances that he would not have to play second fiddle to anyone. And with Chelsea already committing to Diego Costa as their main striker; and Manchester United having Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney up front, the odds of Cavani moving to one of those two clubs may not be as strong.

More speculation is that United could send Wayne Rooney the other way to PSG in order to make room for Cavani next to Van Persie. But then the dilemma for Louis van Gaal is keeping the player happy because it’s believed that the Dutch manager will prefer to play Van Persie as a central striker.

But what about Liverpool?

The loss of Luis Suarez to Barcelona has left a huge hole for the club to fill at striker. Although Rickie Lambert was brought in from Southampton and Daniel Sturridge has mentioned recently that he’s ready to shoulder the burden, both players just aren’t on the level of a Cavani.

With a talented young squad of players, a creative and attack-minded manager, money from the Suarez transfer in its coffers and the prospect of Champions League football next season; could Liverpool be the team for Edinson Cavani?

Any sale of the Uruguayan is going to cost big money. PSG just signed Cavani from Napoli last summer for £54m, the largest transfer fee in French football history. The Uruguayan was brought in as part of a “project” that club officials believe is on course to see them as European champions within the next few seasons. So, unless they have replacements in mind, they will be reluctant to sell a player who is so valued and under contract.

But as they say in soccer, “You never know. Anything can happen.”
