Manchester United Announce Preliminary Squad For US Preseason Tour
Manchester United today confirmed that several of its stars will be playing in the club’s pre-season matches in the United States this summer.
Coached by Louis Van Gaal and assisted by Ryan Giggs, Manchester United’s squad will feature Wayne Rooney, David De Gea, new signings Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw, Juan Mata, Shinji Kagawa and many others.
Manchester United will travel to the States on July 18 for training before playing its first match of the US tour on July 23 with a game at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena against LA Galaxy.
After the opening match against LA Galaxy, United will open the International Champions Cup facing AS Roma (featuring new signing Ashley Cole) at Sports Authority Field in Denver on Saturday, July 27, Inter Milan at Fed Ex Field in Washington DC on Tuesday, July 29 and Real Madrid at the University of Michigan on Saturday, August 2. If United make the final of the competition, the club’s pre-season in the United States will conclude with the final at Miami’s Sun Life Stadium on Monday, August 4.
While the match in Michigan, which is set to break a United States soccer record for attendance, is sold out, tickets for the remaining matches featuring Manchester United can be purchased online.
Assistant Manager, Ryan Giggs, said: “We’re delighted to have such a strong travelling squad for our pre-season tour to the United States. These tours give the squad a great opportunity to not only prepare physically for the season ahead, but to bond as a group – something that is even more significant with the new manager and players coming in.
“United is fortunate to have a great fan base of really passionate followers in the US and we’re looking forward to going back there. On a personal level, this tour will be the first time that I will be involved in matches as assistant manager and I just can’t wait to get started.”
Players who may be absent from the beginning of the tour include Robin Van Persie (Netherlands), Marouane Fellaini (Belgium) and Patrice Evra (France).
Here’s the current preliminary squad. More players will be announced soon:
