The four favourites have won each of the first second round matches at the 2014 World Cup with Brazil, Colombia, Netherlands and Costa Rica all booking themselves in the last eight.

Monday and Tuesday will see four countries make up the quarter-finals with three heavily favoured by the bookmakers.

France face Nigeria in the first match on Monday with Didier Deschamps’ side the favourites following impressive showings in their 3-0 win over Honduras and 5-2 against Switzerland.

Striker Karim Benzema has been involved in 5 of France’s 8 goals, scoring 3 and assisting another 2. The Real Madrid striker appears confident is the tournament coming into it off the back of UEFA Champions League success.

Nigeria have not been pushovers in this tournament. Despite an uninspiring 0-0 draw with Iran to start their World Cup, the 2013 African Cup of Nations winners deservedly beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 1-0 before a valiant effort in their 3-2 defeat to Argentina.

France ooze quality in depth and have a good defence that has only conceded 2 consolation goals to Switzerland so far.

France to beat Nigeria is 1.45

Germany finish Monday with Algeria the opponents who have reached the knock-out stages of a World Cup for the first time.

Thomas Müller has been one of the stars of the tournament and has been difficult for defenders to pick up as he constantly moves around the pitch to find space. He has 9 goals in 9 World Cup appearances including 4 in 3 at this tournament.

Algeria will defend in numbers of which Germany had good practice against in beating USA in their last game. The African opponents look to play on the counter attack and threaten from set pieces.

Germany should be comfortable winners in this match.

Germany to lead half-time/full-time is 1.80

On Tuesday, Argentina look to see off European opposition when they finished their group with a 3-0 win over a pointless Honduras.

Switzerland’s defence looked impressive in qualifying but has been breached 6 times in this tournament. Argentina’s defence not looked so impressive.

Lionel Messi has been the start for the South American nation in the group stage as they have yet to kick into gear. Surely this will be the game that Argentina start to hit full stride.

With Argentina’s great attack and poor defence we could see a few goals in this match.

Argentina are 1.50 to win

Belgium and USA complete the round of 16. This match sees the biggest points difference between two nations in this round with Belgium picking up 9 points in their group and USA only 4.

Jürgen Klinsmann’s side are the only nation entering the last 16 winless in their last two group games after finishing with a 2-2 draw against Portugal and 1-0 loss to Germany.

Expect USA to play a very defensive game looking to hit Belgium on the counter attack or from set pieces.

Eden Hazard could very well be the difference maker in this game with his dribbling ability able to unlock this American defence.

Belgium are 2.00 to beat USA

With the four favourites winning the first four ties, it’s also worth a punt on these four all to qualify.

France, Germany, Argentina and Belgium to qualify is 2.22.
