Germany have been made 4.50 favourites to win the 2014 World Cup with Bwin, with Brazil dropping down to 4.75 and Argentina as third favourites at 5.75.

The hosts have not looked like a Brazil of old and appear to have too many weaknesses to take them all the way this year.

Joachim Löw’s side meanwhile are looking like a well-oiled machine having scored 6 goals in their opening two matches.

No issues need to be made over their 2-2 draw with Ghana last week as Germany often slack off in their second game of the group stage (1 win in the second game of their last 6 World Cups) and they created opportunities to win it at the end. On another day…

Whether they play out a draw with the USA as expected or simply beat them, Germany will progress into the round of 16 with the likelihood of facing either Algeria or Russia. The African side looked impressive against a poor South Korea but defensively they don’t look capable of handling the Germans. Russia meanwhile have looked very conservative and created very little. Löw masterminded a 4-1 thrashing of Fabio Capello’s England four years ago.

After that France could be the potential quarter-finalist for Germany and what an encounter that promises to be based on their opening two matches. It’s 8 goals scored, 2 conceded for France and 6 goals scored, 2 conceded for Germany.

The winner of that then would face either Brazil, Chile, Colombia or the runners-up from Group D. Right now, you’d probably take Germany or France either those two sides. And as I’m favouring Germany to beat France, that means booking their place in the final.

Germany are 2.50 to reach the 2014 World Cup final

On the other side of the draw, the Netherlands are the strongest nation. Argentina have yet to get going but we certainly do expect it at some point. They’re on course to face Belgium in a quarter-final. Should we rule out Ivory Coast going deep into this tournament just yet? Well they do have Didier Zokora in defence.

The Netherlands are 4.50 to reach the 2014 World Cup final

Argentina to face Brazil and Argentina to face Germany are the favourites to reach the final. I can see Argentina getting better in this tournament, possibly beating both Belgium and the Netherlands to reach the final but would expect them to come unstuck against a tactically sound German side.

I like the look of these two bets at great odds:

Germany to face Netherlands in the final at 15.00

Germany to face Argentina in the final at 6.00

France are the only nation I could see preventing Germany going to the final and therefore those odds are very tempting…
