Brad Friedel, one of the greatest US goalkeepers ever to play for the red, white and blue, has signed a new one-year extension to his contract at Tottenham Hotspur, which will see the goalkeeper stay at White Hart Lane until the end of the 2014/15 season.
Friedel, who has been a sound back-up goalkeeper to Tottenham’s number one keeper Hugo Lloris, has also agreed to take on an ambassadorial role with the club where he will be focused on expanding the Tottenham brand throughout the United States.
According to a statement on the club website, “Our goalkeeper’s Ambassadorial role will have a wide-ranging remit that will include greater involvement in our Global Coaching program and engaging with our 30 Supporters Clubs from across North America as we continue to increase our global presence and bring our international fanbase closer to the Club.
“Brad has enjoyed an impressive 17-year career in the Premier League to date, representing Liverpool, Blackburn Rovers and Aston Villa before joining us in the summer of 2011. Capped 82 times by his country, including appearing in two World Cup Finals, he has currently made a total of 67 appearances in goal for us.”
With Friedel getting very little playing time with Lloris ahead of him, the American goalkeeper will have a lot more free time on his hands to promote Spurs throughout the US.
Tottenham will be playing a series of matches in the States this summer.
