Can you believe it? It’s just 26 days until the World Cup gets underway in Brazil.

The host nation will kick off the tournament against Croatia in the competition curtain raiser, paving the way for a month jam-packed with top quality soccer. Lovers of the beautiful game will be able to sit back and sample 64 games over the course of 32 days before a backdrop of fervent Brazilian colour and fandom.

So to whet your appetite ahead of the South American showpiece, here at World Soccer Talk we’ve trawled back through the annals of tournaments gone by and picked out what we believe to be the 25 most exciting moments in the history of this decorated tournament.

We’ll be giving you one-per-day to keep you going right up until the tournament’s start, allowing you the chance to relive some of the iconic segments in this history of this wonderful competition.
