Swansea City Announce US Preseason Tour Including Game Against Chivas de Guadalajara

Premier League club Swansea City have announced that the team will be flying to the United States this summer for a training camp in Chicago as well as a series of preseason friendlies.

The only Welsh team in the Premier League will conduct a training camp in Chicago from July 6 to July 20, which will be interspersed with preseason friendlies against Chivas de Guadalajara on July 16 in Milwaukee, as well as a July 19 friendly against Minnesota United in Blaine. It’s quite possible that the Swans may try to squeeze another game into their schedule.

The first and last time Swansea visited the United States was during the summer of 2012 when they played matches in Colorado and California.

“The two weeks in America will provide us with the perfect opportunity to start building our fitness levels ready for the new campaign,” said Swansea manager Garry Monk.

“The first week will be purely fitness work before the introduction of some game-time against Chivas and Minnesota in the second week.”

Swansea’s profile in the United States will be much greater than when the side visited in 2012.

It’ll be the first time a professional soccer game will be played at the stadium. And knowing how many Chivas de Guadalajara fans there are in the area, it’ll certainly be an intimidating away game for Swansea City. Tickets go on sale May 22 at 10 a.m. Ticket prices range from $25 to $70.

    1. Awesome Taylor! Depending on timing and schedules, I might go too. Would love to see them announce one more friendly perhaps against Chicago Fire.

  1. Gaffer,

You must have had the biggest grin on you face when you wrote “The only Welsh team in the Premier League will conduct a training camp in Chicago from July 6 to July 20”.

    1. Yes, most definitely. I think I’ll be using that “only Welsh team in the Premier League” catchphrase a few times next season :)

      1. Everyone. GO TO MILWAUKEE. Miller Park is wonderful and stop at the Brewery Tour before the game. A quick ride back to Chicago then.

    1. In the San Francisco Bay Area, the FA Cup Final will be on KICU “TV 36”.

Broadcast over-the-air: 36.1 (transmitter in Fremont)

Xfinity by Comcast: 706 (HD), 6 (SD)

      DIRECTV: 36

Channel 2 makes way too money with morning news.

  2. Swansea gets it this time.

A pre-season match against the Quakes won’t move the needle.

A pre-season match against Chivas Guadalajara will move the needle.

Chivas Guadalajara remains the #1 club soccer brand on U.S. television (both in viewership and rights fee), and will stay that way for years to come, no matter how crappy Chivas continue to play (unless of course Chivas are relegated based on 3-year rolling average.)

    1. Chivas won’t get relegated, but if they did, they’d just buy a smaller Liga MX club and magically re-appear in the first division, right? Given how big of a club they are and how valuable they are to the league, everything possible would be done to make sure they don’t disappear from the Liga MX.

I’m hoping Chaton Enriquez will be fit for the Swans game. Although I’m no Chivas fan, he’s one guy on Chivas who I’d love to see play in person.

  3. Finally!! A guys dream comes true I’ve always wanted to see Swansea play! I can’t believe it!! Already got a group of teammates and friends to go to the game! Going to be wearing their Jersy with pride. Is there a certai section for Swansea fans though? If so, where at?

  4. I’m planning to go to the game vs. Chivas. Swans fans will be massively outnumbered, so that should be interesting, particularly since I’m assuming there’s no designated Swansea section. Any news on whether there will be open practices during the training camp in Chicago? That would be cool.

  5. Woo-hoo! Just bought tickets for Milwaukee.

Airline tickets from DC–>MKE, MKE–>MSP; MSP–>DC; hotels; rental cars all sorted.

Only thing left is tickets for Minnesota.

Still a lot cheaper than flying to “the only Welsh team in the premier league” from the states.
