Louis van Gaal, the current head coach of the Netherlands team, is reportedly going to be offered the position of manager at Manchester United early as next week. “I would love the job. I hope that I shall be the one. It’s the biggest club in the world and it’s a fantastic challenge,” said Van Gaal in an exclusive interview with the BBC.

Although speculation states the job is as good as his, Van Gaal is refusing to declare himself the next head coach. He is focusing on the national squad and leaving the decisions up to United. “You (the media) are thinking I’m the man but the most important thing is whether Manchester United are thinking that,” said the Dutch manager.

With Brazil looming overhead, the Dutchman is more focused on competing on the national stage. Van Gaal would be unable to join the United team until after Netherlands exits the World Cup this summer.

Van Gaal has been coaching since 1986 and has led four different teams to eight major titles, including the DFL-Supercup most recently with Bayern Munich. Having last coached at Munich, Van Gaal has since been focusing on the Dutch National team. Van Gaal and his 2002 National squad missed qualification in his first season as head coach but he led the Netherlands to winning nine and drawing only one of their qualification games for the 2014 World Cup. He has also worked with current Chelsea head coach Jose Mourinho when Van Gaal was head coach of Barcelona and Mourinho was his assistant.

Manchester United fans should be expecting lots of changes this summer given that Adidas looking to take over the kit contract and a meeting between Ryan Giggs, who has been serving as interim head coach, and vice-chairman Ed Woodward said to take place later this week. Although Giggs has been serving as an interim coach, he has not been offered or accepted any head-coaching job as of yet. Contract extension talk for defenders Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra has also been put on hold with United seeming to be taking this process one step at a time. Change at Old Trafford is needed after United just went through their worst season in 24 years.
