  1. IanCransonsKnees says:

Off to spend the afternoon in the Lymestone Vaults hitting refresh on my mobile. Fully charged, Ein Stein on draught and curry for tea. Cracking way to spend a day off work.

  2. jtm371 says:

Would like to know the back story on the fallout of Zaha and Moyes.

  3. Martin J. says:

Liverpool should have Konoplyanka signed within the next few hours and he will have his medical in Ukraine. Spurs dropped out of trying to sign him because of his wage demands and 5+ years contract demands. Liverpool are prepared to meet his demands.

According to Luzhny (Ukrainian international who played in the EPL) Konoplyanka will struggle to make an impact in the EPL as he does not track back and is ill-suited for the frentic pace of the EPL. Interesting insight.

  4. Mahlon Christensen says:

I thought NBCSN was supposed to have deadline day coverage, or a special, was I wrong? All I see is regular programming.

    Thanks,
    Mahlon

  5. bennett311 says:

Any update on Joleon Lescott at City?

    • Christopher Harris says:

Sam Allardyce says that West Ham’s deal for Lescott is off, so it looks likely that Joleon will stay at City unless the club get any last minute bids.

    • Lescott is not moving. He can go on a free this summer, but City’s failure to buy another central defender this window means he is being held for cover purposes. His 90k per week wages City were anxious to get of the books but only if a cheaper replacement could be bought.

  6. Marc says:

Aberdeen has had a good transfer window.

Wylde & Clark out, Magennis out on loan

Brought in Rooney, Tait & Logan which they desperately needed help on defense.

Huge League Cup Semi Final match tomorrow. It should be a great second half of the season as they battle Motherwell for 2nd.

  7. Ianor says:

A decent choice here in “africa” skysport’s coverage hall day carrying on supersport blitz. And other hand premierleague’s channel coverage carrying on supersport3 with andy towsend, ian downie&dean sturridge in the studio. Confused which one to watch.

  8. M Owen says:

rumor that NewCastle have had a 11mil bid rejected by Liverpool for Henderson.

what is Joe K thinking? last summer FSG would have bit his hand off for that money but now no way.

    • Brian says:

If true, it would be a very strange one. Fist the price and then Henderson is presently a very important player for Liverpool. Liverpool are trying to buy midfielders, not sell what they have.

      • yespage says:

Liverpool would be nuts to sell Henderson. They still have to get their money’s worth in the first place. And he is just finally paying dividends this season.

  9. Jeff says:

Not sure if anyone else saw this on Sky Sports News just now, but Ross McCormack gave an extraordinary interview regarding the sacking of Brian McDermott

  10. Smokey Bacon says:

All very boring stuff so far. The January window is mainly for has-beens and never-will-bes shuffling from one sinking ship to another. The serious business gets done in the summer.

  11. Brian says:

Well, the window is officially shut. Now for word as to which deals made it in time. Clubs can only officially confirm signings after the governing body approves the paperwork. Some signings will be announced as late as tomorrow morning (UK time).

  12. M Owen says:

    Gaffer,
Can you LFC fans a favor and write an article on what incompetent fool Ian ayre is.
The mans negotiation skills are worse than Peter from family guy.
I mean you know the Dnipro owner is not going sell how naive is just sit over there thinking he will change his mind.
I can understand not wanting to overpay for a player but why couldn’t they read the situation or learn from past mistakes is just mind boggling…I mean Dempsey, Henrikh, Willian, Costa, Sugursson, Costa, Salah, Konoplyamka..etc the list just goes on and on…how is this man still in the job?

    • Paul says:

…how many of those players mentioned have been a success at the clubs they ended up at?

Ayre is the easy target. Nobody has got a clue how their policy is structured from the top level down.

And with regard to today’s fiasco, the club agreed terms with the player, met the release clause and the player wanted to move to Liverpool so as far as the club were concerned the deal was all but signed off. It’s an easy option blaming Ayre here.

      • M Owen says:

Paul, FSG and Ayre have every right not to overpay for a player but my question is how could they not sense for three days that owner was just stringing us along? Rather reading the situation and moving to other targets they just waited and why wait until the last day to start negotiation when you have 30days to do it.

Same thing with Salah, chased him for two months.
For all his faults Damien Commolli did close all his targets even if they were wrong targets.

        • Paul says:

Club presidents don’t tend to get involved in these type of things. They work with agents and the player primarily and everything had been agreed until the president of the club decided he didn’t like it very late in the day. There was nothing Liverpool could do at that point. Negotiations aren’t as easy as just speaking to 3 people – they include all sorts of hidden parts. This particular players is meant to have had multiple agents involved over different things which would have prolonged talks in their own right.

Re Salah – sometimes players just don’t want to play for a particular club and sometimes (especially with foreign players), London is far more appealing than anywhere else. That’s just a harsh fact clubs deal with all the time. Plus, it was Chelsea. We’re not the only club to lose out to them… Hazard to Man Utd for example.

As a side note – Just because the press didn’t start widely reporting it until the window closed, doesn’t mean it wasn’t out there earlier. The presidents involvement and unwillingness to sell was first reported around 6pm on SSN and it’s at that point that I believe the deal was already over. There was footage of Rodgers driving out of Melwood at 6.30pm.

The club released a full interview with Rodgers on their website not long after the window closed about getting no business done in this window… another sign that they never dragged it on to the last minute at all. As soon as they realised, they walked away. Why they never said as much, I have no idea!

          • M Owen says:

Ayre has proven to be a brilliant Commercial guy but very very bad when it comes player negotiations.

ManU did the same mistake by appointing a commercial guy and paid the price for it in summer they learned the lesson and tapped Gill for getting Mata.

The owners are never at the club and there is no CEO till date.

He negotiated with Salah for over two months only to screw it up in the end..the deal could have been wrapped up before Chelsea got involved but didn’t…how do you think specialists like Gill, Levy,Dein operate?
