Monaco and Colombia striker Radamel Falcao suffered a nasty ligament injury earlier today in a French cup game, which could rule the star out of this summer’s World Cup.

Falcao was playing for Monaco against Chasselay in a Coupe de France match when, in the 40th minute he was on the wrong end of a challenge from a Chasselay defender. The medical staff ran on to the pitch and stretchered the footballer off for medical treatment. The Colombian star was grimacing in pain.

It’s not yet known what the severity of the injury is and how long he’ll be out of action, but this could come as a big blow to Colombia’s World Cup hopes.

  1. R.O says:

How was that not a red card and a penalty kick? The defender took out Falcao with not contact what so ever to the ball.

Hope the French FA reviews this and suspends the player who committed the foul. Doesn’t help Falcao. The League should also remove the Ref suspend the ref or not allow to ref in top class games for a period of time.

  2. Devastating news. Certainly weakens Colombia but also the tournament. We want all the best players performing at their peak this summer. Instead one of the best from a nation that qualified will be missing.
