Manchester United footballer Wayne Rooney is unwilling to discuss a possible contract extension partly because the 28-year-old wants to see whether the Red Devils will qualify for the UEFA Champions League at the end of this season.

Rooney has been stalling talks for several months, and will reportedly discuss his future at United after the World Cup this summer. The gifted footballer is now entering the final 18 months of his contract with United, and is conscious that he probably has one major transfer move left in his career before he’s past his prime.

David Moyes believes Rooney is happy at the club, but is concerned what may happen if United fail to qualify for the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Rooney is out of this weekend’s FA Cup match with a groin injury, and is a doubt for the mid-week League Cup semi-final 1st leg against Sunderland.
