The clock is ticking down to the silly season, which is typically the summer transfer window. But in this case, it’s ticking down to the January transfer window where clubs are looking to make desperate moves (or to help cover for injured players), to give the club a boost until the season ends.

The latest transfer gossip coming out of Italy is that Napoli are preparing January bids for Tottenham Hotspur’s Erik Lamela and Manchester City’s Aleksandar Kolarov. According to Corriere dello Sport, outspoken Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis wants to provide manager Rafa Benitez with added depth.

Both Lamela and Kolarov are talented footballers, but Lamela is having difficulty fitting in at Tottenham, while Kolarov is only making rare appearances as a substitute for the Citizens.

Could Lamela and Kolarov head to Italy this January?

This seems like a very speculative article. While Lamela isn’t fitting in a spurs yet, he was just signed as a boost for their midfield. they’ll continue to compete on all fronts and extra midfielders is important as they combat injuries.

As for Kolorov, this is simply impossible. He has mad many more starts under Pellegrini and even captained the side recently. Clichy has been a rock the pase several seasons but Kolorov has seen his form improve and Clichy battle injuries, finally letting Aleks get is chance to shine. Napoli would need to pay silly money for a player who starts at LB for a CL and EPL top side, all while also taking free kicks and even penalties now.

Lamela to Napoli might happen if Spurs feel he isn’t going to make it in the EPL. Better to sell now for what he was bought for rather than lose money later. Lamela will be given a run of games till the transfer window closes to see what he can do. I still think he will come good but whether Spurs decide to sell and buy a replacement is left to be seen. If Spurs struggle to keep pace at the top Lamela could be sold.
