Mexico defeated Panama 2-1 Friday night at Estadio Azteca to move one step closer to qualifying for the 2014 World Cup.

In what was a must-win game for Mexico, El Tri took the lead late in the first half after Peralta slotted home a goal from a Chicharito pass. In the second half, the likelihood that Mexico would win the match increased when Mexico were awarded a penalty kick in the 56th minute when Cummings brought down Aquino. Up stepped Chicharito to take the penalty, but he was unable to put the ball into the back of the net after Penedo saved his shot.

Minutes later, the likelihood of Mexico not winning the match worsened when Panama equalized in the 81st minute to put the game at 1-1.

And then with just six minutes to go before the 90 minutes was up, Raul Jimenez scored this goal to win the match:

With the victory, Mexico still have a chance of qualifying for the FIFA World Cup 2014, but the team will need to win on Tuesday against Costa Rica and hope that the results from the other matches go their way.
