Mexico have today named Victor Manuel Vucetich as the new manager of the Mexico national team.

The Mexican is the third person to be in charge of coaching the Mexican national team in just one week. Last Friday night, Chepo was fired after the team’s loss to Honduras. He was replaced by interim manager Luis Fernando Tena who coached the team for the 2-0 loss against United States on Tuesday, and now Victor Manuel Vucetich has been named as the coach of the Mexico national team for the two remaining games of the World Cup qualification process.

There’s no guarantee that Victor Manuel Vucetich will be in charge of the Mexico team if they qualify for next summer’s World Cup. The former Mexican footballer is on a short term contract with the Mexican Futbol Federation.

Vucetich is a journeyman coach in Mexico, who has previously managed 13 sides at club level including Monterrey, where he declined an opportunity to become the manager of the Mexican national team in 2010.

In response to Vucetich becoming the new coach of Mexico, FMF President Justino Compean said, “Vucetich didn’t accept three years ago for family reasons. He’ll take us forward. Mexico will be in Brazil 2014.”

Mexico’s next game in World Cup qualifying is October 11 when they play Panama in Mexico City.
