Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has been ruled out of action for at least four weeks with a groin injury.

Kompany picked up the injury in the game against Newcastle United on Monday night. The news will come as a blow to Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini as he’s now missing both his first choice centre backs due to injury. Matija Nastasic was injured in early August, and isn’t expected to return to first team action until September.

With Kompany and Nastasic out, this will give an opportunity to Manchester City’s only fit centre back Joleon Lescott. It also will encourage Pellegrini to consider looking in the transfer market to see if they pick up a central defender in the summer transfer window.
