Arsenal Poised to Sign Mathieu Flamini As Free Agent

Arsenal are close to finalizing their second transfer signing of the summer transfer window with the return of holding midfielder Mathieu Flamini to the Emirates Stadium.

Flamini, who played for Arsenal from 2004-08, helped the Gunners win the 2005 FA Cup and 2004 FA Community Shield as well as reaching the final of the UEFA Champions League in 2006. However, Flamini left to join AC Milan in 2008 after Arsenal were unwilling to increase his wages.

After joining Milan, here’s what Flamini said about Arsenal in 2009:

“Arsenal are in my heart and they will be in my heart for ever.

“I will always be an Arsenal fan and leaving was not easy.”

Flamini, 29, is currently a free agent after being released by AC Milan.

Arsenal’s other signing so far this summer was Yaya Sanogo, who was signed on a free transfer from Ligue 2. Meanwhile, the Gunners are interested in signing Karim Benzema and Angel Di Maria.

have bread is better than none

  2. Dave says:

If he aint good enough for milan

then he’s not good enough for us.

    Arsenal are bigger than that…

Dnt think he is wat we need….

He is free and could have been a good sense of business but we need more than his quality

    • gooner4life says:

Milan offered him an extension and he refused. He is a good professional holding midfielder which is what we need. He will allow our other midfielders more attacking freedom and be just what we need until diaby returns from injury. In which case we will have him, diaby and arteta to cover that role if needed. But all in all he will be a quality signing that will add steel to our midfield

  3. Junaid segun says:

At least he will add strength to d midfield, for now

  4. Smokey Bacon says:

Tony Adams is waiting by the phone.

Im really surprised @ wenger welcoming him back after he left us wen we need him d most but all d same he is a good & quality player & he is a good candidate 4 d job.

  10. chrisgunner says:

hmm…… Why flamini? When can easily into the transfer market and get young versatile dm like lars bender. Wenger what are you up to? Although he adds depth to our squad @least a good replacement for the onloan youngster (Lecoq)

    • gooner4life says:

Wenger bid £19m for bender early in the window, but was informed that he will not be sold for any price. In any case flamini is quality.
