The 2013/14 season has only just begun, and we already have three massive matches in store for us this afternoon.

Depending on your club allegiances, the biggest match of the day could either be Fenerbahce vs Arsenal in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League play-off, the Spanish Supercopa between Atletico Madrid and Barcelona, or the Premier League match featuring Chelsea against Aston Villa. What’s your pick? Or, if you’re like many of us, you may try to watch two or three of them at once.

Chelsea have a golden opportunity to jump to the top of the Premier League table with a win tonight at Stamford Bridge. The match has been brought forward from the weekend of August 31-September 2 in order to allow Chelsea to play in the UEFA Super Cup Final on Friday, August 30 against Bayern Munich.

They’ll be facing an Aston Villa side tonight that are buzzing after their emphatic 3-1 victory against Arsenal at the weekend. Watch this video to see how Villa were unable to outwit Arsenal on the Gunners’ home pitch.

While Chelsea-Aston Villa will be battling in London, Arsenal face a much more trickier tie in Istanbul where they’re up against Fenerbahce in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League play-off match. Read our preview. Hopefully the Gunners will be wide awake for this one as the Fenerbahce supporters set off flares and firecrackers outside Arsenal’s hotel last night.

Last but not least, Barcelona faces Atletico Madrid in the Supercopa. The match pits the winners of La Liga against the winners of the Copa del Rey. Note that this is a two-legged final, so the two teams will play again next week to determine the best team in Spain.

For viewers in the United States, the matches will be shown on:

Chelsea vs Aston Villa, 2:30pm ET, NBC Sports Network

Fenerbahce vs Arsenal, 2:45pm ET, FOX Sports 1 and FOXSoccer2Go

Atletico Madrid vs Barcelona, 4pm ET, ESPN Deportes (and on ESPN2 at 5pm ET).

Before, during or after any of today’s matches, join the conversation in the comments section below with fellow soccer supporters from around the world.

David Villa opened the scoring for Atletico Madrid in the 2013 Spanish Supercopa with this beautifully taken shot:

Laurent Koscielny got kicked in the face tonight against Fenerbahce. The Frenchman had to be taken to the hospital for stitches on a very deep cut.

  1. Guy says:

Hazard is a one man wrecking crew.

  2. Frill Artist says:

Where is the Arsenal match being shown?

  3. Zach says:

Fox Sports 1 would do well to get rid of that ticker at the bottom. It adds no value to the football match and should be taken away.

    • Guy says:

But where would we get all that important information, like the promos for every single upcoming “event” on FS1? ;-)

  4. craig says:

Wow this Sport Live Extra app is terrible. Can only make it 3 minutes before starting over. Absolutely infuriating.

  5. Christopher Harris says:

With Laurent Koscielny coming off with an injury and being replaced by Carl Jenkinson, the latter has moved to right back while Bacary Sagna has moved to the centre back position.

Arsenal players are dropping like flys.

  6. Guy says:

    Some shot by Benteke!

  7. Shannon says:

So, only a yellow for that boot to the face? That’s curious.

  8. Pete Q says:

Loving the intensity of the Chelsea-Villa match.

  9. leafsfan1967 says:

Who is doing the commentary for the Fenerbahce vs Arsenal match on Fox Sports 1? I’m at work so can’t follow it. It isn’t Gus is it?

  10. Mufc77 says:

If villa play like that all season they will be top 10 easily. Gods hard working young team they have put together.

  11. goatslookshifty says:

Thank you FOX for the Gymnastics injury update and the NFL ‘gossip’ while the CL game is on. Does anyone give a toss?
    That channel is pathetic!

  12. MoyesvMouvPelli says:

Only JT gets away with such clear hand balls.

  13. Mufc77 says:

A own goal and a offside winner from the player who should have got a straight red card. Add in a missed penalty call and the Villa fans won’t be happy.

  14. goatslookshifty says:

no worries, Man Utd will put them in their place on Monday!

  15. Wongo1 says:

Villa got shafted, Ivan the terrible elbows Benteke from behind and gets a yellow, only, then he scores an offside goal. He then kicks the same guy in the mug but Benteke gets a yellow.

Then John the C word using Terry clearly and I mean CLEARLY handles the ball in the area and the ref closes his eyes to it. Very poor show by the ref tonight.

I know they have a love affair with Jose but damn don’t make it this obvious.

    • Ken says:

So the fact the Villa player is VERY CLEARLY pulling John Terry is ok is it? It was a foul on Terry BEFORE any handball which was caused in any case by the player himself fouling JT. Learn the rules.

Thank god the ref knew them.

      • Wongo1 says:

Sorry mate but take off the Blue tinted glasses, Terry does not even complain as he does that type of climbing all the time.

The point is it is clear handball and the ref is staring right at it and does F-all.

        • Ken says:

          What blue tinted glasses?

Terry was fouled first. Take off your anti Chelsea glasses and look

          • Wongo1 says:

Dude I am NOT anti Chelsea, this is why people hate clubs like yours. Just call it down the middle and don’t be a blind follower. If United get a win through a poor decision I’ll fess up as I am not a fan of winning by slimy means. The point is simple Ivanovic should have been sent off for that elbow but the ref turned a blind eye, he then kicked the monster that is Benteke in the face and got away with that, then Terry clearly handles the ball and there is a no call. Those are the facts you can chose to believe what is right in front of you or you can live in your dream world. Either way I don’t give two flyings now be gone.

  16. Christopher Harris says:

Good match so far between Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.

Jordi Alba is up to his old tricks so far, feigning injury.

  17. Christopher Harris says:

Fantastic goal by David Villa! And what build-up play to that opener. Beautiful.

  18. Dust says:

Great goal from Vila..still has it.

That Barca kit looks like cat sick…
