The French football season kicks off today with the 2013 French Super Cup between Paris Saint-Germain and Bordeaux. For viewers in the United States, the match kicks off at 2:40pm ET on beIN SPORT.

The French Super Cup, or the official name Trophée des champions, features the Ligue Un champion against the Coupe de France winner. It’s the French equivalent of England’s FA Community Shield.

For the past five years, the French Super Cup has been played in a different country than France. Last year, the game was played at Red Bull Arena in New Jersey where a crowd of 15,166 saw Lyon play Montpellier. Today’s Trophée des champions match is being played in the French speaking country of Gabon in Africa.

Today marks the 18th edition of the French Super Cup. Whether you’re a Ligue Un fan or not, this afternoon’s match should be well worth watching to see new signings including Edinson Cavani and Marquinhos.
