After reports surfaced last night US time that Fenway Sports Group were trying to sell Liverpool Football Club for £350million, the company owned by John W Henry has vehemently denied the reports this morning, saying that “Fenway Sports Group has made its position clear, Liverpool Football Club is not for sale. There is no truth in this story.”

A spokesperson for Fenway Sports Group said:

“Like so many rumors in the past about a sale of LIverpool Football Club, there is absolutely no truth in this. We have had no meetings with anyone about a sale, we don’t know who the source of the rumor is.”

The Sun published a story last night US time reporting that sources from the London banking world claimed that two American billionaires could be potential buyers. Plus, the paper reported that FSG had received a takeover proposal recently for Liverpool FC from Saudi Arabian oil firm Saudi Aramco.

Fenway Sports Group purchased Liverpool Football Club in October 2010 after former owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett brought the club close to bankruptcy.
