Paris Saint-Germain have signed Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani to a five-year deal at the Ligue Un club. The reported transfer fee is a whopping £54million.

Cavani had been a transfer target for both Manchester City and Chelsea, but the French club were the victors in the race to sign the former Napoli striker.

Paris Saint-Germain President Nasser Al-Khelaifi was very confident following the signing of Cavani:

“The transfer of Edinson Cavani is further proof of the club’s ability to attract the best players in the world. The player was seduced by the club’s sporting project and is delighted to be joining an ambitious side, impatient to take on new challenges. We are especially happy to present such a hugely coveted player of immense talent to our supporters.”

For 2013-14, the addition of Radamel Falcao and Edinson Cavani, among others, will certainly increase the profile of Ligue Un, which will be shown on television in the United States on beIN SPORT.

Plus, Paris Saint-Germain will be battling in the UEFA Champions League this coming season, which will be televised by FOX Sports in the United States on FOX Sports 1, FOX Soccer Plus and FOX Soccer 2Go.
