Major League Soccer has announced that Portland’s JELD-WEN Field will host the 2014 MLS All-Star Game.

The match will feature a MLS All-Star team against an opponent to be announced. This will be the first time that Portland has hosted the All-Star Game.

“The Portland Timbers and their passionate fans have certainly earned the honor of hosting the 2014 MLS All-Star Game,” MLS Commissioner Don Garber said. “This match will showcase to an international audience the incredible devotion to the game in the Pacific Northwest that serves as one of the most important stories for our league.”

This year’s MLS All-Star Game will feature Roma against the MLS All-Star Team on July 31 at Sporting Park in Kansas City.

Based on the atmosphere created in the ground, MLS would be better off hosting both the All-Star Game and MLS Cup in Seattle and Portland each year, taking turns.
