Swansea City have today unveiled their new home and away shirts for the 2013-14 season. Tomorrow, they’ll be unveiling the shirt sponsor name to reveal the complete picture of home and away kits for next season.

Let’s start with the Swansea home shirt first. It’s plucked right from one of the latest adidas templates. It’s clean and simple. At the same time, the most glaring feature is the black bar on the shirt sleeves. My only concern is how similar this shirt will look to the Fulham home shirt for next season since both clubs have similar colors and are both using the adidas templates. So far, it looks like the collar design and shirt sleeves are different enough to make them stand out from each other.

With the Swansea City away shirt, this is quite a departure and bold move by the club and adidas. Most people will either love or hate the yellow and purple away kit. My first impression is that I don’t like it, but as with most shirts, I’d like to see it in person or on television before I’ll know for sure.

One thing that hasn’t been uncovered yet is what aspect Dylan Thomas’s famous poem “Do not go gentle into that good night” has in terms with the Swansea away kit. The words have been used in a social media campaign. And Thomas lived in Swansea. It’s quite possible that the words of the poem may be woven into the shirt design.
