Chelsea have shown continued interest in signing Edinson Cavani following a reported £49.3m fee has been agreed by the two clubs.

At the same time, there’s conflicting reports regarding whether a deal has been struck or not. Chelsea are reported to be in talks with Napoli regarding the Uruguayan striker. Meanwhile, reports in the press indicate that Cavani has told his mother and father to essentially “shut up” and not talk about his future plans, as both have been featured in the press in the past week pontificating about where the striker is heading.

Cavani has shown his worth this season, scoring 38 goals in all competitions, his most successful of his career to date.

Jose Mourinho has already set the marker since taking charge at Chelsea after signing Andre Schurrle from Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday.

Mourinho already has attacking options with the likes of Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Romelu Lukaku all in the squad, which will return to pre-season on July 1.

The interest in Cavani will re-ignite transfer rumors of the forwards who are currently at Chelsea, with Torres’ future in doubt as the Spaniard is linked with a move to Barcelona.

Cavani was the Serie A top goalscorer last season and the 26-year-old looks in the prime of his career, a signing which would show real intent by Mourinho as the new Chelsea boss.
