Wigan Athletic, the current FA Cup holders, have announced a US tour, which will see them play three matches Stateside.

On Saturday, July 13, Wigan Athletic will play Columbus Crew at Crew Stadium in Ohio. That’ll be followed by a game against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on July 19. Wigan also plans on adding a third match to its itinerary against a team to be determined.

Here’s what Wigan manager Owen Coyle said about the 10-day trip:

“The opportunity came up for us to go to the States and was too good for us to turn down.

“The players will love the facilities over there which are first class and it is a great way for us to begin our pre-season preparation in readiness for August 3.”

Coyle is no stranger to taking his teams to the United States to prepare for the new season. Coyle’s previous teams — Bolton and Burnley — both played matches in the United States during recent summers.

For the Columbus Crew-Wigan Athletic game, individual advance ticket prices start at $23 and will go on sale Tuesday, June 25 at 10:00 a.m. at the Crew Stadium Box Office, all central Ohio Ticketmaster retail locations, via Ticketmaster phone at 1-800-745-3000 and online via TheCrew.com.

The game marks the first-ever meeting between Wigan Athletic and the Columbus Crew, and the Latics are the ninth English opponent to face Columbus. The Crew is 10-4-2 all-time in international exhibitions and 3-3-2 against English opposition. The Crew downed Leeds United 2-1 in 1997; tied Newcastle United 2-2 in 2000; defeated Fulham 2-1 in 2005; tied Everton 1-1 in 2006; lost to Aston Villa 3-1 in 2007; fell to West Ham United 3-1 in 2008; lost to Newcastle United 3-0 in 2011 and beat Stoke City 2-1 last July.
