Rio Ferdinand has signed a one-year deal at Manchester United to keep him at the club through until the end of the 2013-14 season.
The 34-year-old defender, who announced his retirement from the England national team last week, said “It has been an incredible journey and I am glad it will continue. I can now fully concentrate on my club career which has worked well for me over the past few years.”
David Moyes said: “It is clear for everyone to see that Rio has had one of his best seasons with the club and I think even from the outside you can see what a big character Rio is around the dressing room, so I am delighted he has signed a new contract. I am looking forward to working with him.”
Do you think Ferdinand will get much playing time for United next season with Phil Jones, Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling and Nemanja Vidic competing his spaces? Share your insight in the comments section below.
