The Professional Footballers Association (PFA) have announced their nominations for 2012-13 Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year.

They are as follows:

For Player of the Year, the nominees are:

  • Gareth Bale
  • Juan Mata
  • Michael Carrick
  • Eden Hazard
  • Luis Suarez
  • Robin van Persie

The nominations for 2012-13 PFA Young Player of the Year are:

  • Gareth Bale
  • Christian Benteke
  • Eden Hazard
  • Danny Welbeck
  • Romelu Lukaku
  • Jack Wilshere

Gareth Bale and Eden Hazard are nominated in both categories.

The highly prestigious awards competition is voted on by each member of the Professional Footballers Association. In the 2011-12 awards, Robin van Persie won Player of the Year, while Kyle Walker was recognized as Young Player of the Year. Gareth Bale won the Player of the Year award in 2010-11.

The winners of this year’s Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year should be announced in the next few days.

What do you think about the nominations? Did the Professional Footballers Association get the nominations spot on, or are there some glaring oversights? Post your opinions in the comments section below.

Personally, I think it’s ridiculous that Michu was overlooked. All six players nominated for the Player of the Year are worthy, but I would argue that Michu should have nominated instead of Eden Hazard. Michu has scored 17 goals in the league, and was a key player responsible for helping the Welsh club win the League Cup. Eden Hazard has scored 8 goals in the league so far this season.

  1. Mufc77 says:

RVP for player of the year simply because he’s been so influential in us winning the league.

Bale for young player of the year is a no brainer. Hazard started the season on fire but has been very quiet since.

  2. Ivan says:

Welbeck a nominee for young player of the year. Is this a joke of sorts? What a misunderstanding this guy is…and he plays for Manchester United, the likely champions.

I have to go with Mata for player of the year. The guy is pure quality, a joy to watch, and is at the heart of anything creative from the Chelsea side.

  3. Jay Praed says:

    WHERE THE F&&K IS NASTASIC?

  4. jtm371 says:

carrick mata and hazard give me a break it is a 3 person race.wellbeck that is a joke one goal please. young player of year has to be Bale.saurez never played in a pressure packed match all season player of year has to be Bale or RVP.voted for RVP because of tittle they won.

    • Mufc77 says:

Carrick has been top class this season fir us but he’s not a player who draws a lot of attention and press.

I’m a little surprised David DeGea didn’t at least get a nomination for young player if the year

  5. Marc L says:

Van Pervy for player of the year. Bale for young player.

Just being intellectually honest, despite how much I hate van Pervy.

  6. CTBlues says:

I don’t understand how Bale is still getting nominated as Young Player of the Year. What age do you have to reach before you are not considered “Young”?

  7. Prinz says:

How on God’s good earth did DDG not get a shout at the YPOTY nomination, and Welbeck being nominated, whoever made this list deserves TO BE CHOPPED.
As for Carrick being nominated, it’s about time he earned some recognition for his game, “IT’S CARRICK, CAN’T BELIEVE IT’S NOT SCHOLES”

  8. Sam says:

It’s simple his name begins with S and ends with Z
    Luis suarez.
The most consistent player throughout the whole season.

  9. john morton says:

Only 3 in it rvp bale and mata. After his goal drought was thinking maybe not rvp.. But after last 3 games he’s right back on top.. As for yound player where’s kyle walker?? Dea gea?? Who picks the nominees?
