Arsenal Plan £8m Summer Move for Swansea Defender Ashley Williams: The Daily EPL

Arsenal is interested in signing Swansea City central defender Ashley Williams for £8 million this summer according to an exclusive in The Guardian by reporter Daniel Taylor.

Taylor’s exclusive contains zero sources listed, no quotes (not even anonymous ones) and no evidence that Arsenal is even serious about Williams. However, the former Stockport County footballer has been rumored to be a target of other clubs including Liverpool and Manchester United.

What do you think? Can you see Williams doing a better job in the back for Arsenal than Thomas Vermaelen?

  1. He will not go for less than £10m should he be sold. Nor does he wish to leave either in a hurry because he has made Swansea his home. The club doesn’t need the money and will honour Ashley’s wishes! Money can’t buy loyalty and commitment!

  2. Why only 8 million? If we’re really serious about a quality defender here (that is, someone who would do a better job than those we currently have), shouldn’t we be paying more for him?

    Well, I guess nothing’s new.

  3. John! are you his manager?, Swansea what?. You play beautiful football okey, but every player’s dream is to play in the champions league with the slightest opportunity and that is what swansea for now cannot give williams but Arsenal can.

  4. I don’t see why Williams will want to join Arsenal if they don’t offer him Champions League football. He will be in the Europa League with Swansea.

If Swansea held out for 15 million for Joe Allen I can see them wanting a lot more than 10 million for Williams.

Liverpool are also interested in Williams so there could be a bidding war if he were to become available. Swansea will only sell if they can bring in a replacement and make a good profit in the process.

  5. Just to add to the comment earlier, look, Williams is not getting younger and please advice him to take this golden opportunity if it eventually comes his way. Don’t be selfish please.
