sky sports epl Premier League Saturday, Gameweek 13: Open Thread

Six Premier League matches today. Four tomorrow. Most of these should be routine wins for the top Premier League clubs, or are they?

Sunderland kicks things off with a home match against West Bromwich Albion, for the early kick-off. For viewers in the United States, this match will be shown live on FOX Soccer, not ESPN2 (ESPN decided to revert to showing Swansea-Liverpool tomorrow).

Following Sunderland-WBA are four 10am ET/3pm UK matches featuring Manchester United against QPR, Stoke against Fulham, Wigan versus Reading while Everton battles Norwich City.

In the last match of the day, Aston Villa is at home against Arsenal.

Woken up to a frost in Stoke his morning, there’s a bitter wind which hopefully will put Berbatov off his stride today.

Some good news emanating from the Britannia late last evening is that it looks likely that Ryan Shawcross will sign a 6 year extension to his current contract. It gives both parties a bit of security, if the big boys come knocking they will not get him on the cheap, if not he’s secure well into his 30s.

I’m not sure how today will go, I was chuffed Hangeland is suspended but then I remembered they’d got Berbatov up front. I’d like to think we can get 3 points.

Betting wise this weekend I’ve had West Brom away at Sunderland (you can’t ignore that at odds of 2-1), I’ve plumped for Swansea to beat Liverpool (if you look at results for managers going back to their old club the score is 10-3 to the old clubs), and South Africa to beat England at Twickenham. £5 on that gets you £90 back.

I quite fancy Villa to scupper Arsenal’s revival later on, dunno why just one of those things.

I’ve got a spare ticket for our home match against Newcastle on Wednesday if anybody fancies it. I’ll warn you I was in the same situation last year for the same match up, a mate travlled down to watch and Demba Ba stuffed us 3-0. I still can’t understand why we didn’t sign him.

Enjoy your afternoon on here gents, I’m sure you’ll back your compatriots playing against Fulham today. Cameron should start and I wouldn’t be shocked to see Edu get on at some point.

your betting slip is looking good hope you put more then 5 on the boks that was a easy mark.what were the odds for the Swans over Pool?how about those Stoke boys with a win enjoy a pint or two.

  2. Jason says:

If West Brom have ambitions to play in Europe next season then they should beat teams like Sunderland. A win today will cement their European ambitions and will make Steve Clarke favorite to win Manager of the Year.

  3. IanCransonsKnees says:

Top 3 for the Baggies by the look of it. eally not looking forward to playing them.

  4. Marc L says:

Good grief – 2 down for the cats might as well be 10. Although they are well in advance thus far of their pace this year of two(!) shots on target per game.

  5. jtm371 says:

i think you will do well with your betting choices. i can’t believe you get 90 for 5 and the boks i think i might have put a little more down.good luck to your boys and just be glad you don’t have the waiter on your sideline.Enjoy

  6. jtm371 says:

WBA is a fun side to watch very positive,Clarke has done a good job so far long season ahead.

  7. IanCransonsKnees says:

Wellbeck, Rooney and RVP to start against QPR.

Off out now, has just started pelting it down with rain here. Can’t beat football at this time year, a winter break’s for pussies.

  8. Marc L says:

Nice work by crybaby Adam Johnson right there. Just when this threatened to be somewhat interesting.

  9. jtm371 says:

Sunderland not quitting nice fight back.

  10. Kevin Keegan says:

This QPR team is awful. When I saw all the players they signed this summer I thought, “Wow, Sparky has signed a lot of crap players.” Not shocking that he got the sack. If Arry gets them out of relegation, it will probably be his greatest accomplishment as a manager.

  11. Marc L says:

Alright, support goes out to the Mighty Stoke in respect for Cransons, who always has interesting stuff to say here.

Looks like a great and quintessentially English atmosphere over there at the Britannia. I can feel the cold bitter wind and rain all the way here in Texas!

    • IanCransonsKnees says:

Not as much as I felt it ;-) Feet like blocks of ice second hand. Sure you don’t want that ticket for Wednesday night?

  12. jtm371 says:

talk about a struggle very slow take off at OT. MUFC sleep walking thru first half.

  13. Marc L says:

Very nice play in general for Stoke. Only 55% of possession? Seemed like more. That’s the best I’ve seen them look all year.

Queens Park Relegated level with the rags? No, that would be too much to hope for. That bunch of geriatrics won’t end up within 2 goals by the time all is said and done.

  14. Guy says:

Dumb way for Cameron to get a card.

  15. Guy says:

Stoke really need to make all the pressure pay off. Fulham very flat.

  16. Dust says:

Coincidence that Anton comes on and QPR loose the lead

  17. jtm371 says:

nice to see Fletcher fights back from his medical issues and scores a big goal.

  18. Dust says:

I think Harry Redknapp made the call to bring on Ferdinand…and now they are loosing. I hope he buys Dawson in the window and huddlestone.

  19. Frill Artist says:

Wow. The last score I saw was 1-0 to QPR now it’s 3-1 to Man U. What happened?!?!?

  20. Guy says:

Not sure what TP sees in Whitehead. He generally does something stupid.

  21. jtm371 says:

glad to see you were able to join us today since there was no posting i guess you slept in and missed a good early match.WBA is a pleasant surprise Clarke has the boys playing very positive.Any hope for Villa today?

    • Dust says:

I watched it, Sunderland were terrible, how O’neil still has a job is beyond me, Sunderland are a big club, he has taken them backwards I think from what Bruce was trying.

  22. Dust says:

If issue puts mackie though it would have been 2-0 qpr and a diff game, selfish play. No wonder they are bottom, ‘arry won’t save them.

  23. Guy says:

    3 points! Amazing! :-)

  24. Dust says:

C’mon Villa you useless bunch of brummies! Darren Bent left of the bench too. Either Darren Bent slept with lambert a wife or…. Well I don’t know what the hell is going on at villa park to leave DB out still, they need goals.

  25. Dust says:

Hoping for a shock result, villa 3 Farcenal 1

  26. Sammy says:

OMG, West Brom, seriously? 2 points off top dpot? This is wonderful, to say the least!

Plus, their match today was a thriller.

  27. IanCransonsKnees says:

Chuffed for the Baggies, always nice to see the unfashionable clubs mix it up. There fans are generally top people too.

Decent performance from Stoke, still need a replacement for Pennant though. Any more full backs in MLS worth signing in January?

For anyone who claims we’re cynical look at Steve Sidwell today for Fulham. Impressed by Adam for the first time this season. Lots of cracking moustaches on show in the Stoke team today too.

Sat at home with a curry, beer and Wales vs The All Blacks on the box. Will flick over to Villa Vs Arsenal at half time.

  28. Mufc77 says:

Did Harry redknapp really leave 4mins before the end of the match today?

  29. IanCransonsKnees says:

Martin O’Neill has offered his resignation
