Fox Sports’ co-president Eric Shanks says that losing the Premier League TV rights in the United States to NBC (beginning with the 2013-14 season) is “a bummer.” The executive says that FOX Soccer will not undergo a rebranding (there have been many rumors that FOX Soccer would become FOX Sports 2 or 3.
That’s all good news for soccer fans… until August 2013 begins where FOX Soccer’s programming will instantly be missing its crown jewel (the Premier League). What else will there be to watch on the network in terms of live broadcasting that’s worth watching every weekend?

The Standard has the full interview with Bruce Buck on the Clattenburg situation: http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/chelsea-chairman-wed-have-been-really-crucified-if-we-had-not-reported-clattenburg-and-it-then-leaked-out-8312146.html
Police drop probe of Clattenburg because no victim came forward.Chelsea might wish they had waited 24 hrs to let everything to cool off.i hope MC will sue the hell out of Chelsea but when will he get his good name back.
The police shouldn’t even be involved but the Brits don’t seem to get that. It was a work place problem so it should be dealt with by the governing body of that organization.
Do you even go to work? In the UK and United States if a person abuses/threatens/harasses another person in the workplace the police can be called in to investigate. Don’t you realize Lawyers have made complete careers out of workplace disputes??
In the UK that is a crime that the state hears with a prosecutor and a defendant. In the US that would be a civil case with a plaintiff and a defendant because in the US calling someone racial slur is not a criminal offence. Now if you physically assault someone or threaten someone’s life at the work place then that would be a criminal offence and yes the police would be involved.
This is assuming The FA make no charges.
As we saw John Terry was found not guilty and was still sanctioned by the FA.
Jumping to conclusions again.
Well if FOX NEWS can call itself that when there’s no actual news content, I suppose FOX SOCCER can continue in the absence of any actual soccer.
Have you even watched Fox News? You must have missed the Fox Report with Shepard Smith. It’s the same news all the other networks show.
LoL good one
I’ve watched… Libya 24/7 fpoll numbers are bias.. The left is ruining America… And that on Smith’s 7oclock.
It will be rebranded eventually, even if it is just to a Fox World Sport or something, but they will probably go with a multiple Fox Sports line up that they can sell to cable/sat companies as a cheap package so they can offer ‘more sports channels’.
So will they still have the rights to the UEFA Champions League?
Yes, through 2015 I believe.
Cheers,
The Gaffer
They could show Sky’s Soccer Saturday live on match days right? No live action but fun to watch. And they can still show Sky Sports News with all the goals as well I take it?
When the 2013-14 season starts, FOX Soccer won’t have the rights to show highlights of EPL games. So if they do broadcast Sky Sports, they would have to black out the game highlights. Otherwise, they’d be in violation of the rights deal that NBC has.
Cheers,
The Gaffer
Soccer Saturday doesn’t show anything of the matches happening on a Saturday afternoon, they show clips from the week before in the build up that’s about it. To be honest I doubt the humour would travel.
Aye, I know. I was speaking to Sky Sports News rather than Soccer Saturday.
We’ve had Soccer Saturday on television here sometimes. It’s alright.
Cheers,
The Gaffer
Cracking program, they’ve take Sky Sports News off Freeview over here though so you need Sky to get it.
How are the hits for the piece on Arsenal? It’s gone down a storm where I linked it 😉
I see myself becoming a much bigger La Liga and Serie A fan with less Premier League programming on TV. I just don’t see NBC airing as many replays of Premier League games and programming like we got w/Fox.
I just got beIN Sport and have been really impressed by their programming. This morning before work I watched a special on Bill Shankley and watched a look back at Mardid’s win in a monsoon. If beIN continues to air interesting history pieces and other well produced programs I could see myself watching it way more than Fox Soccer. I see Barcelona and Real Madrid as big winners if beIN Sport can continue to get their networks on cable companies as they look to expand their fanbase in the US.
I wonder what FOX will do fill the void that the Premier League took up. I just don’t see myself watching a Dutch or Scottish League game as their top offering on the weekend when there is Premier League on NBC, Bundesliga on GOL TV, Serie A/La Liga/French League on beIN, and US Sports which I love on all of the other channels. FOX will still have my Tuesday and Wednesday when the Champions League is going on but that is only every other week for a few months, off for a few months, and then every other week for a few months.
Great idea on showing Sky’s Soccer Saturday but I doubt they do that. That is a show that could air on FOX Soccer Plus easily next season but it doesn’t seem like a move that FOX would do.
You obviously haven’t read anything NBC has been saying since they got the rights.
I wouldn’t at all be surprised to see Bundesliga and more South American and Mexican games on Fox Soccer if they are going to continue as a dedicated football channel. If so, that would be more bad news for GOL-TV.
The only way for Fox to still be a viable soccer channel is to add German and Dutch soccer. Otherwise, the only thing they will have that’s of interest to most fans is the Champions League.
Does this mean Fox can now afford to have a decent highlights show that’s not in Canada?
Well, MTV stopped playing music videos years ago; The Learning Channel (TLC) features Honey Boo Boo, not really a role model of learning and education, the History Channel only shows Swamp People and other 3rd rate reality shows, anything but history-related, so it’s only fitting that the so called “Soccer Channel” will show everything BUT soccer. Aaah, the times that we live in…
“Good news for soccer fans”? Why would soccer fans even care about Fox Soccer anymore? These statements by Fox Soccer are just PR spin. Just watch, the channel will disappear in 12 months.
