The average manager is in charge of a Premier League for just 55 matches. Yesterday, Sir Alex Ferguson celebrated 1,000 matches in charge of Manchester United after the Red Devils came back to defeat Southampton 3-2.

Those 1,000 matches in charge of one top flight English club is an incredible achievement, and it’s one that may never be reached ever again. It’s even more incredible when you consider that the one thousand matches isn’t even his complete total. Before United, Ferguson managed three other clubs in Scotland (and stepped in to manage Scotland’s national team from 1985-86).

Sky Sports led a short tribute to recognize Sir Alex Ferguson’s magic 1,000 number (see above video).
