Premier League Transfer Window Deadline Day Signings: Open Thread

sky sports1 Premier League Transfer Window Deadline Day Signings: Open Thread

Today is the busiest day in the Premier League transfer season as we’re on deadline day. Final transfers have to be completed by 6pm ET/11pm BST tonight. Instead of spending your day searching across the Internet on wild goose chases and poor rumors, stay with us here at EPL Talk as we scour the Internet to bring you all of the Premier League transfers as soon as they happen.

Plus, later tonight, the EPL Talk Podcast crew will be releasing a special episode of the EPL Talk Podcast, which will go into the analysis and news regarding all of the major transfers — discussing who will benefit the most, and who is going to be hurting after the window shuts tonight.

Here are the club-by-club transfer news from today. Come back throughout the day for updates, and be sure to use the comments section below to share your opinions and analysis.

    1. Charlie Adam to Stoke is a good move for everyone.

    2. I don’t begrudge Scott Sinclair a thing, but I think his playing career has pretty much come to an end for the time being.

    • CoachQuinn says:

For the record, I’m a United supporter and a big EPL fan.

You nailed it with Charlie Adam. I was just going to leave a post about that. His signing is one of the best of this transfer window. His free kicks and corners are going to be a HUGE addition to Stoke’s already well-executed set pieces. It’s such a smart signing. People can say what they want about Stoke and their style of play. But their players, coaches, and supporters are all bought into the system. And they keep adding like-minded players.

      • jtm371 says:

if charlie(hack)adam is so great why did LFC have to sell at a lost i thought you were suppose to buy low and sell high.i think Stoke spent way to much.

        • Yespage says:

Liverpool have much higher expectations than Stoke. Besides, I don’t think many thought that L’pool didn’t over spend for Adam to begin with. The pressure would be lower at Stoke, possibly making it easier to fit in and feel confident. Liverpool has been pretty good at sucking up confidence recently.

I’m definitely on the fence with Adam being signed by Stoke. If he becomes as good as people we originally saying he was at Blackpool, then it can work out. Otherwise, Stoke probably shouldn’t have that hard of a time selling him to break even.

          • jtm371 says:

i guess i am on the side of the fence that thinks he is slow and lacks talent and he is good for a hatchet tackle or two each match,

    • Yespage says:

It is if he can improve on his set pieces.

      • IanCransonsKnees says:

Here’s a text message, word for word that I sent to two Liverpool fans on Tuesday.

“I can’t believe you paid £9m for Adam! I’m pissed off we’ve bid £5m! Robbing scouse bastards”

And now we’ve got a daft rumour on our messageboard linking us to Henderson after I’ve spent a year taking the mickey out of them for spending stupid money on him.

As for saying that the supporters have ‘all bought into the system’ that’s an absolute crock.

Pulis is the most divisive manager we’ve ever had in both of his spells at the club, despite everything he’s done for us. If you looked at The Oatcake message board last week there were people calling for him to be sacked, in fact it’s been growing since the end of last season. I was even tempted to have a few quid on Benitez to replace him (he’s a regular sight at our training ground) I’m going to hold off until I see how much we spend today. There’s a rumour on our board that we could break our transfer record on a new striker but it depends on Jones leaving. If that happens I think he’s got the Chairman’s full backing.

Despite all that best day of the year. Even Talksport have had a yank call up saying he was driving around listening to the show whilst he was working and loves it!

  2. QPR, does look a solid team now !

  3. Dave says:

    Liverpool>
Charlie Adam makes move to Stoke for 4 million, Jay Spearing joins Bolton Wanderers on loan, Andy Carroll joins West Ham on loan.

Sturridge will probably join on loan if Schurrle joins Chelsea. Dempsey may be a last minute signing but Liverpool were more interested in player exchanges than paying cash only. Brazilian Leandro Damiao may be a surprise signing if Sturridge deal doesn’t happen.

  4. Nissi says:

Scott’s move is bad move for his career,I wish he stayedd @ Swansea to develop into some type of Legend.Adam pls play well and dont dissapoint me and other fans

  5. dust says:

Levy gets Moutinho for $22m…ridiculous negotiation skills…All the haters…there you go!

    • Andrei says:

I don’t know about Levy haters but there is some harsh criticism coming from the Shakhtar camp. Their CEO Sergei Palkin claimed that most of the Levy’s proposals were outright ridiculous and one cannot trust any word he says. Palkin also stated that in the end they couldn’t take him seriously and are not likely to have any dealings with Spurs in future. This is based on bits and pieces of information on Ukrainian websites and Shakhtar forums.

      • dust says:

I think the Shaktar ownership group are just sour at missing the opportunity ti sell their player. With all due respect to the Ukranian league, it not the same quality as the premier league and they overpriced thier player at 20 million. Moutinho is a proven quality and was bought for 22 million.

        • Andrei says:

Well in ridiculing Levy’s tactics they referred to his £10m offer paid in installments over 4 years. After he was told about about £20 valuation and that only full payment upfront offers would be considered Levy came back with £11.8 in installments again. And hinted that he would consider buying other players if Shakhtar agree on the deal. That’s when they stopped taking them seriously.

As for missed opportunity you (and perhaps chairman Levy) should realize who you are dealing with. Shakhtar do not need Spurs money. They are only considering offers because Willian wants out. Maybe playing in EPL gives Levy some advantage as desired player destination but financially speaking Spurs are lightweights compared to Shakhtar. So Levy couldn’t possibly impress anyone there with his £11.8m offer. Besides, Shakhtar have a policy that they expect players who they bought at age 18-19 and brought trough their reserve system to play at least 2 seasons in the main team before Shakhtar will consider offers below valuation. On this basis they rejected Chelsea £25m offer last season and they the same thing to Levy. So if Levy wanted to play as an equal partner and curbed his “I’m smarter than all of you” attitude he could have Willian next summer at much discounted price.

          • dust says:

Shaktar having big money isn’t going to stop players wanting to leave as seen in the Willian case. As for levy being skater…I think he is LOL…

As for the money situation, yes Shaktar have rich owners, but that doesn’t mean the club is worth more, it just means they have powerful backers. The Spurs club is worth alot more than Shaktar for many reasons, Location, League, Operating income and profits are the main ones.

Unless you can show me otherwise. The last time I checked the Deloitte money league I didn’t see Shaktar Donesk but I could be wrong.

  6. dust says:

Sad to see VDV go, wish we could have kept him for depth…but…he has wanted to go to germany for a while now, his wife is a tv personality there, supporting his misses career now he is getting older.

    Good Luck VDV!

  7. Alex Wolcott says:

Oh man, the Sky Sports news coverage of Deadline Day is just about the best thing in the world. I wish I did not have so much work to do because I may have to shut that off just to ensure that I can get things done.

After a slow start, good adds for City this year. Not like they need it, but all the depth you can get will help with a rough stretch in Europe coming up (stupid UEFA coefficient impacting where you get drawn…rrrrrrrrrrrrrr)

  8. Mick says:

BREAKING: QPR to change club name to ‘Manchelsea Unicity’

  9. BA14 says:

Do I watch the Doctor Who marathon on BBCAmerica or just leave Sky Sports on?

  10. krazymunky says:

apparently Joao Moutinho deal is having problems due to personal terms (from Sky sports)

  11. bucky says:

Spurs are doing some great business. I dont think they will achieve top four just yet. but if they add more pieces in January. I can see them finishing 4th.

  12. Christian says:

Very pleased with City’s moves so far.

  13. Les says:

The three most depressing words today: No news yet.

  14. BA14 says:

We need a live report to see how the Aston Villa fans are feeling.

  15. dust says:

Bale just heard Miacon sign for city and is relishing the City game now and looking forward to a hat-trick.

  16. Mick says:

I can’t keep up with Arsenal’s transfer business.. Far too many prospects going on at the same time..

  17. iancransonsknees says:

Just watching the blind five a side football at the Paralympics. Their passing and first touch is an improvement on most of Stoke’s first team.

  18. dust says:

No Clint to Spurs…NO WAY…That has to be a rumor to push up the price for the liverpool deal.

    WTF! No NO No!

  19. IanCransonsKnees says:

Here’s one for you regarding Kenwyne Jones to Marseille -

Anyone remeber that Remy actually came to Stoke a couple of seasons back?

Possible swap deal. Unlikely I know but it spins the story a little differently.

  20. dust says:

I wonder if this Moutinho deal is gonna happen? it would be great but im not sure it will, I do hope that Lloris signs tho, I cant watch Freezel anymore. Every time the ball is put in the 18 yard box i nearly vomit with anxiety.

  21. M Owen says:

For FFS , LFC are very light uptop ..we are injury or ban away from having no strikers

  22. Gaz says:

11:19am ET — Liverpool is interested in signing Yossi Benayoun on a loan deal (Sky Sports)

Why? We already tried that – he had his moments, but not good enough to prevent us from selling. Now we want him back on loan? It makes my head spin.

  23. Dust says:

Allegedly the Moutinho deal is stuck on a loyalty bonus detail in the contract, but Moutinho wants the move to happen as does AVB but spurs are insisting he continues as a professional with Porto until all is resolved.

The thoughts are the deal is going to happen. We will see!

Allegedly the Lloris deal is done barring a medical completion. Even if he does sign he won’t play until the next game.

  24. Les says:

01:22pm ET — Newcastle United defender Paul Dummett has joined St Mirren on loan until January (Sky Sports)

    I preferred “No news yet.”

  25. Andrei says:

Is it too late for Chelsea to bid for Falcao?

  26. Neville says:

Fulham would prefer to sell Dempsey to Spurs instead of Liverpool to send a message to Dempsey. This one will go down to the wire and who knows what will happen.

  27. Dust says:

This transfer window has been brutal, the window closes then we only get 1 game before the international break.

This September international break is an absolute joke, they need to figure something else out. After tomorrow th enext game is on Sept 15

I have no interest in a bunch of bench warmers being picked by a muppet to represent England.

  28. Dust says:

    LOL LMAO

  29. Andrei says:

Falcao has £50M buyout clause in his contract. Chelsea or City move in January transfer window?

  30. Dust says:

    @epltalk

I don’t remember coverage of the transfer window like this by epltalk, I like the club splits with the stories showing the ups and downs throughout the day.

    Good job

  31. Mick says:

Falcao. Colombian futbol demigod. Up there with Messi and Ronaldo. Genius. and now Miranda. Atletico Madrid 4-0.

Bayern Munich deserved the Champions League trophy. Feel for them.

  32. Matt Jones says:

Essien on loan to Everton could be a go-er.

  33. Neville says:

Chelsea do get a consolation goal courtesy of Cahill. I wonder if Roman made a call during the game and asked to buy another top player. Loic Remy has been mentioned as a target but I don’t see it as Chelsea said if they bought another striker they would send Sturridge out on loan. Sturridge is playing in the Super Cup.

Cannot believe how good Athletico are and how poor Chelsea are. The score of 4-1 is deceptive as it could have easily been 6-1 or 7-1.

  34. Dust says:

    Yes Lloris deal done!

  35. jtm371 says:

getting Lloris will be a bigger deal than not getting Joao because if you don’t give up a goal you can’t lose.

  36. Dust says:

No no no no no not Dempsey….

    Jesus

    For the love of god!

  37. Dust says:

I’d rather those muppets at fox soccer just didn’t even speak about spurs. I’d rather they just continue the Chelsea and Newcastle lovefest.

Garbage not happy with that signing AT ALL

  38. jtm371 says:

oh no Clint at WHL ouch.

  39. omakbob says:

I wouldn’t mind seeing Dempsey in a Spurs kit, but VDV>Dempsey, imo. Not a good trade off.

  40. Neville says:

Looks like Dempsey is going to Spurs. Finally this saga is ending.

  41. MG says:

How is it that Arsenal have gotten their hands on SO MANY PLAYERS?? Incredible. Wow.. Such astute and enthusiastic business. I could hardly catch up today.

  42. Spurs1974 says:

Ugghhh!! Wish he weren’t going to Spurs… Sure didn’t need a diva like Dempsey. Oh well. I don’t get a vote.

  43. March says:

Good job with the club by club breakdown.

  44. Steve says:

Sky Sports radio reports Dempsey at WHL talking terms with Spurs after Spurs agree fee with Fulham.

So Liverpool lose Carroll and now have no replacement because they couldn’t come up with a couple more million for Dempsey. How the mighty have fallen. Unless Liverpool have something big lined up in the next hour or so this could be disastrous for Liverpool.

  45. Rufus says:

    @epltalk

    Erase that Essien nonsense..

  46. dust says:

Seriously, Dempsey…what happened to Moutinho? i would rather have not signed anyone. what are they thinking?

    Terrible deal

  47. Steve says:

Essien is going to Real Madrid on loan according to Sky Sports radio.

Benayoun on loan to Liverpool. Not sure what to make of this one.

  48. dust says:

Maybe levy is gonna turn around and sell him to Liverpool in the final hour of the window?

I hope hope hope hope hope hope Levy sells him right now to Liverpool..

    now….

(hitting refresh on the skysports transfer update page)

    now…

    ….

    now…

    now…

    Damn it!!

  49. bostonirish8 says:

Chelsea looked like crap. They need more firepower up front. I don’t think El Nino will be consistent for them and will disappear in big games. Obviously impressed with Falcao, haven’t seem him play live to many times and he is the real deal, up there with the top Strikers in the world.

Been a fun day watching these transfers either happen or not happen. I think if Spurs can come to an agreement with Moutinho and if the Dempsey rumors are true then thats some good business and they could be in for the title this year.

  50. Todd says:

Dempsey to Tottenham confirmed by SSN for 6million.
Is it just me or does Berbatov look less than excited to go to Fulham? I suppose he never really looks happy anyway.

  51. bostonirish8 says:

I’m not sure what Liverpool was thinking doing nuthing today and not getting some sort of replacement for Andy Carroll. They are seriously light up front and to expect Saurez who is invisible in some games and an unproven Borini to carry them all season is mad.

I really dont understand why they went cheap on the Dempsey deal. A lot of people are down on him and saying hes not worth it but hes a proven goal scorer in the league and for under 10 million getting him would be just what the Reds needed. I’m not sure if being an American is the reason for his low price but if he was a Englishman or any European after a season like he had for Fulham last year he would have been sold for 15 mill. Think Spurs were the big winners of deadline day, especially if they pull of the Moutinho deal.

    • Todd says:

Not to mention that Dempsey would provide a great link between midfield and Suarez. Suarez has been all alone up front for quite some time and doesn’t look like he’s going to be getting any help any time soon.
I would say that Dalglish’s past spending has soured the new owners to wanting to spend any more money. Trying to be too shrewd.

  52. Steve says:

Benayoun actually joining West Ham rather than Liverpool. Good move by West Ham especially since Chelsea will pay part of his wages.

Spurs have done very well with Lloris, Dembele and Dempsey. Dempsey and Dembele have played together so that’s a plus too. Big losers are Liverpool who didn’t want to pay 6 million which is what Spurs paid. He scored 17 goals last season.

  53. Matt says:

I can’t believe that Arsenal didn’t move for a replacement for Song! Leaving the protection of our defense in
Abou- always injured and not good enough – Diaby will see us miss out on the ball winning defensive midfielder that we really needed. Aside from that, I’m not going to even touch on our lack of wide defenders (in Sagna’s absence). So much for Wenger’s comments earlier this week about more signings.

Oh well, at least Bendtner is gone.

  54. Andrei says:

Looks like Essien is joining RM on one year loan.

  55. Neville says:

    Well, it’s all over!

Now let’s get back to talking about tomorrow’s games. Some good games to watch, West Ham vs Fulham strat us off, then West brom vs Everton and Swansea vs Sunderland look good too.

  56. hoosiergunner says:

    Kept checking in all day…

Kept thinking there was some super-secret, last minute deal in the works…

    No luck. Disappointing.

It’s going to be a long season for the Gunners.

Congrats to both Spurs and Fulham… you both did well today in my book.

    • Andrei says:

Looks like a lot of disappointed Arsenal and Liverpool fans are out there. The game on Sunday will be an interesting affair…

    • Todd says:

Don’t see it so much as all negative. I see it as a chance for the Ox to get some minutes in the middle and prove he can run it.

  57. Alex Wolcott says:

Javi Garcia confirmed by MCFC website!

  58. dust says:

I really really love the Lloris signing, so relieved.. Brad did ok last year but those collapses against Man Utd, Man City, the arse and Norwich were to much to bare.

  59. jtm371 says:

any idea if MUFC finalized the A Henriquez deal not sure of status?

  60. Matthew says:

I am pleased that Spurs got around to getting a new goalkeeper since I think that was an area of concern for the future. I heard rumor of Dempsey going to Spurs, so not completely shocked and I think he could be an asset to the club. I am sad to see VDV leave and I don’t buy the whole story he wanted to return to Germany because of his wife. In time he wanted to return to Germany but had stated he was happy at Spurs. I think there is more to that story and I bet any it has something to do with AVB and Levy. For all the talk of Levy wanted to use the young players of Tottenham, while they are being sent out on loan just like before. Levy must be on life support with all the spending. However, with the sales I am sure Levy’s master Lewis and the rest of the investors at Tavistock Group won’t mind. Levy can wash his hands now. If AVB screws up, Levy has that ace and will tell him I gave money and players, so all the blame will fall on AVB. Time will tell.

  61. Dave says:

According to the Guardian, Liverpool only bid 3 million for Dempsey. If true, that is shocking. Fulham felt insulted by the bid and told Dempsey about it which is why he decided to join Spurs. FSG have a lot of explaining to do.
