Great Britain vs Uruguay, Olympic Soccer: Open Thread

Team GB kicks off against Uruguay today at 2:45pm ET on NBC Sports Network and NBCUniversal Soccer Channel (as well as and the NBC Olympics Live Extra app).

Great Britain only needs a draw to qualify for the quarter-finals, but they face a Uruguay side that needs to win the match so they can qualify for the next round. Everything is on the line.

Team GB starting line-up: Butland; Taylor, Richards, Caulker, Bertrand; Ramsey, Allen, Cleverley; Bellamy (c), Sturridge, Sinclair.

Ryan Giggs is not starting.

Team GB’s women’s soccer team has already qualified for the quarter-finals after beating Brazil 1-0 yesterday. But can the men’s soccer team do the same?

Before, during and after today’s match, post your rants, raves, questions and observations in the comments section below.

  1. So, is Diego Forlan hurt, or was he just not chosen as one of the three senior players for Uruguay. Sure looks like they could use him

  2. Nice goal by Team GB. Swansea’s Scott Sinclair passes to Swansea’s Joe Allen, and then to Daniel Sturridge to get the first goal.

    1. Not sure, I’m watching the stream via the Live App and the commentary is coming through fine. But when I watched the USA-France game last week, there was no commentary via the app.

  3. Holy Hell….is anyone else sick to death of this British commentator and his obvious love for the word Senegal? Hey man, stick to calling the game at hand!

  4. Not sure if anyone else is experiencing this, but there’s a delay between the audio and video in this game — so I hear what happens on the pitch before I actually see it.

  5. Congratulations to Team GB on the win today!! Well deserved.

Team GB will play South Korea this weekend in Cardiff. Should be a great game!

  6. Looking forward to the GB – US game in woman’s soccer…that may be a bit premature to assume…but it’s destiny and will be a very exciting game.

  7. There was definitely something wrong with the coverage in terms the video was slightly behind the commentary. It didn’t really matter too much and I was just happy to watch the game on TV.
Congrats to GB as that midfield trio of Allen, Ramsey, Cleverley along with good wing play is really making up a difference. South Korea shouldn’t be taken lightly though.
