A reliable industry source has informed me that former Canadian Women’s National Team, Vancouver Whitecaps Women, and UCLA women’s soccer player Kara Lang is under serious consideration by Rogers Sportsnet in Toronto for an anchor position on the new soccer newscast premiering September 1, 2012 at 10pm Eastern Time on FOX Soccer (U.S.) and Sportsnet World (Canada).

According to the source, Lang recently auditioned on camera as anchor of the new show.

According to Wikipedia, Lang is a native of Calgary, Alberta and grew up in Oakville, Ontario. She made her debut with the Canadian Women’s National Team in 2002 at the age of 15. She retired from all competitive soccer in January 2011 due to recurring knee injuries. You can see a video clip of her press conference where she announced her retirement from playing here (skip to minute 5:33).

Lang has worked for Rogers Sportsnet as an analyst and sideline reporter, covering multiple sports in Canada and the U.S. including women’s international soccer and NCAA men’s college basketball. She will be working as a soccer analyst for CTV in Canada during London 2012.
