Tom Arnold to Appear in UEFA Champions League Final Coverage On FOX Sports

tom arnold Tom Arnold to Appear in UEFA Champions League Final Coverage On FOX Sports

Actor and comedian Tom Arnold will appear in a segment during this Saturday’s UEFA Champions League Final on FOX, the free-to-air network.

Arnold will be traveling to Munich to watch the final between Chelsea and Bayern Munich. Presumably Arnold will appear in a segment that will include highlights from his journey to Munich, and some of the interesting moments on the way to, and around the stadium.

Tom Arnold was the host of The Best Damn Sports Show Period for four years, and is best known for his role in the TV show, Roseanne, as well as his appearance in the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie True Lies.

On Twitter, Arnold was asked whether he was doing this project for FOX as part of a science experiment or because he watches soccer. Arnold replied, “A bit of both.”

Arnold is a certainly a sports fanatic. The move by FOX is an obvious attempt to try to win over some of the mainstream sports fans out there who are not hardcore soccer fans, to bring them into the broadcast and hopefully to win them over.

For FOX’s coverage of the UEFA Champions League Final last year, FOX brought in NFL athlete Michael Strahan to describe the differences between “football” and “futbol.” It was an obvious attempt to provide a Soccer For Dummies guide to new viewers that fell flat on its face. My hope this year is that Arnold will be able to bridge the gap by providing an irreverent but insightful segment about his travels to Munich, together with some hard hitting soccer analysis from Eric Wynalda. We can only hope, right?

  1. Cody says:

Why does Fox still try to dumb down the sport to appeal to mainstream sports fans?

    • The Gaffer says:

Because they’re trying to increase the number of viewers by going to the mainstream, so they can make more money.

      • Cody says:

Gaffer, I get that, but increasing viewers is only going to happen through continuous exposure and more importantly goals being scored. How many mainstream sports fans are going to watch the CL final just because some washed up “comedian/sports talk show host” is going to be on there?

In my opinion a better use of their time & money would be to do some “best of chamions league” promo shows.

    • CTBlues says:

Because that is what FOX does with everything they touch not just sports but also the TV programs they show.

  2. jtm371 says:

just another reason to tune in at kick off. lets be real how many T Arnold fans are going tune in and say since tom is on the pre match show i think i will watch.NONE let the event stand on its own.

  3. Fernando says:

This would be fine if they had gotten someone more interesting with a well known connection of football here in America.

Tom Arnold does not match any of that criteria. Drew Carey fits the bill.

  4. Pat says:

Because everyone on the fence of whether or not to tune in for the Champions League Final were crying out for Tom Arnold.

  5. huhe888 says:

Just tune in to FOX at 2:35pm Eastern Time for the player entrance.

    Skip all the pre-match fluff.

Take a 15-minute break during half time by turning off your TV.

Flip over to FOX Deportes after the final whistle to avoid all the ads on FOX.

  6. scrumper says:

They should take Kenny Dalgleish, he’s got nothing to do on Saturday.

  7. Christian says:

I’ve completely given up on the US prematch shows on Fox Soccer and I 100 percent avoid the Fox prematch shows. Piers Morgan was enough reason to not watch but now Tom Arnold? Are you ‘avin a laugh?

  8. DCUdiplomat says:
