A proposed friendly between Chelsea and AC Milan to be played at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland this summer is in serious jeopardy of being moved to Miami, Florida, due to complications, reports The Washington Post.

The match in Maryland was tentatively scheduled for July 28 and was even posted on the Chelsea website. However, the friendly was never officially announced. Many, myself included, presumed that the match would be announced shortly, but that announcement never came.

For those fans who were on the fence regarding whether to buy tickets to watch Liverpool versus Tottenham, also scheduled for July 28, at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, or Chelsea vs Milan at FedEx Field, you may now want to go ahead and buy tickets to see Liverpool versus Spurs before the tickets are sold out.

If the Chelsea-Milan match is moved to Miami, it’ll be the first time in 23 years that a major English team has played a high-profile match in South Florida. The last time was in 1989 when Arsenal entertained Independiente of Argentina at Joe Robbie Stadium. Presumably the Chelsea-Milan match would be played at Sun Life Stadium in Miami now that the baseball team has their own stadium. And what a match it would be between a team challenging for a Serie A title against an English club in the Champions League Final.

As soon as we have more information, we’ll post it on EPL Talk.

What are your thoughts regarding the news? Are you disappointed that the game may not be played in Maryland? Depending on where you live in the country, would you plan on going to Miami to see Chelsea play? Let us know in the comments section below.
