With the gap starting to widen between first and second place, Manchester City were going to have to start winning big to pull back some ground on United. After a nightmare gameweek 32 for the Citizens, gameweek 33 was somewhat more satisfying.

It may have taken some time, but gameweek 33 seems to have finally seen a return for the City team that we saw pre-Christmas. City’s emphatic 4-0 win over West Brom earned them 7.19 points, their highest tally since their 3-0 win over Liverpool in gameweek 20. A wretched run of form for Roberto Mancini’s troops saw them drop briefly in the bottom five of the form table, but now sit in a more respectable 7th.

Although City have started to show more signs of purpose, the red half of Manchester don’t need to start worrying yet. Even though defeat at Wigan ended United’s run of eight straight victories, it was that run which has opened up a 10.68 gap at the top with only five games to go. But let’s not forget Wigan, who have been experiencing some good form of their own. Sitting pretty in fifth place in the form table, the Latics’ win over United was their third win in five and a return of 6.83 points is good reward for beating a team 15 places higher in the league.

The award of ‘Form Kings’ though goes to Newcastle United, who have won five of their last five. This fine run of results has seen the Magpies move above Chelsea and close the gap on Tottenham in 4th to 4.42 points. A 2-0 win over Bolton may not have returned a particularly high score, 5.60 for their efforts, but the win keeps the pressure on those around them and proves that Newcastle are a genuine contender this season.

From a seemingly iron-grip on the top four, Spurs’ latest setback, combined with Newcastle’s form, has seen their points cushion slashed. Gameweek 33 saw Norwich upset the league table by taking 7.84 points away from White Hart Lane. The Canaries are now within touching distance of a place in the top half while Spurs are nervously looking down.

Everton continue to look down on Liverpool after brushing Sunderland aside by 4 goals to nil. Though still someway behind Chelsea, Everton got 7.64 returns from their Easter Monday clash, a total that Liverpool’s away win couldn’t even match.
