Francesco Totti Breaks a Scoring Record with Roma

Roma legend and skipper Francesco Totti broke the Serie A scoring record for a single club after managing to score a quick double on Saturday during the 5-1 win over Cesena. The two goals scored by Totti brought his tally to 211 goals with the Giallorossi in the Italian top flight.

Totti has now played 486 times in Serie A and scored 211 goals to beat the record of Swedish legend Gunnar Nordahl who managed to score 210 goals for Milan in league play. However, he trails Nordahl in overall scoring in Serie A since the Swedish legend managed 225 goals to rank 2nd on the all-time list while Totti is in 5th place and in need of 5 more goals to tie both Giuseppe Meazza and Jose Altafini.

Totti will have the chance to probably rise as high as 2nd place on the list if he continues to play since he needs 14 goals to tie Nordahl but he is far behind the all-time top scorer in Serie A who is Silvio Piola with 274 goals.

Totti deserves all the praise for his efforts, scoring record and loyalty to Roma spanning around two decades. Like the legendary Italian defender Paolo Maldini, Totti has only played for one club. Totti’s scoring record for a single club in Serie A must serve as an example for those who doubt they can play at a high level once they go over the age of 30. Francesco is 35-years-old and will likely play on for another couple of seasons.

Totti has also contributed to the Italian cause helping the Azzurri reach the final of Euro 2000 and winning World Cup 2006. His best season was 2006-07 when he managed to score 26 goals in 35 league matches.
