Steve Bruce has been sacked as manager of Sunderland Football Club.

Bruce managed Sunderland from June, 2009. As manager, his win percentage was 29%, which was his worst record as a manager during his career. The final nail in the coffin seemed to be the home loss against Wigan Athletic last Saturday where Sunderland gave a dreadful performance and lacked organization against one of the worst teams in the league. This is despite the fact that Sunderland has spent large sums of money in the previous transfer windows and were tipped by many to be a candidate to qualify for Europe this season.

“It is my job to act in the best interests of our football club and I can assure everyone that this is not a decision that I have taken lightly,” Sunderland chairman Ellis Short said.

“Sadly results this season have simply not been good enough and I feel the time is right to make a change.”

Sunderland’s next game is against Wolverhampton Wanderers (Sunday, 11am ET/4pm GMT).

Now that Bruce has become the first manager of the season to get the sack in the Premier League, who do you think will replace him?
