In Gameweek 7 of the Premier League, there were plenty of goals, impressive wins for each of the top six and a jump of eight places for Fulham in this week’s Alternative Premier League.

Football is a funny old game. Fulham were winless after six games and were coming up against a QPR team who were two weeks removed from dominating Wolves 0-3 at Molineux. So what would the score be? 6-0 to Fulham, obviously. This was the kind of performance that Fulham has been threatening for some time and Martin Jol must be thrilled that his team have finally shown some of their Europa League form in the Premiership. Fulham’s dramatic rise up the league is a result of the amazing 9.03 points that they won from this game, while QPR amassed just 0.43 points – the lowest of the season so far and a score unlikely to be beaten. A week after flirting with the bottom teams, Fulham are now in touch with Villa in 7th.

Newcastle have been this season’s surprise package this season and the fact that they lie in fourth place after seven games, 1.75 points behind Chelsea, is a testament to the hard work of the team and the manager Alan Pardew. They may have ridden their luck at times against Wolves, but teams at the top don’t only get the rub of the green, they make the best of it. Had Kevin Doyle’s late strike been allowed then Wolves would have won 4.04 points for their toils, but as it finished a 1-2 home defeat meant that they are awarded only 1.93 while Newcastle run away with a tally of 6.81.

Manchester City continued chipping away at United’s lead with their impressive 0-4 away win at Blackburn. City’s return of 7.80 was 1.42 better then United’s total of 6.38 points. While United did struggle to beat Norwich, the Canaries relatively good league standing of tenth meant that the Red Devils got a decent point score out of it.

Swansea hold the amazing record of not conceding a single goal in their first four home games. Stoke were the latest scalp to leave the Liberty Stadium without hitting the net and the Swans secured their second win of the season by two goals to nil, a win sealed by Danny Graham’s cool-as-you-like finish. While 6.80 points is not their biggest total of the season, it’s a welcome addition and a score that shifts them up to 11th.
