We all got our fill of Premier League football this past weekend. For Liverpool, it was just one of those days. For the Manchester clubs it was a party, while Arsenal and Chelsea nearly blew their leads at the end of their respective matches. The weekend is not over yet, as there is one game left to play in this round when Queens Park Rangers take on Newcastle later in the day. Today’s “Daily Ticker” includes all the latest managerial quotes, injury news, and more.

Premier League News:

Arsene Wenger’s side picked up their first win of the season, even though they probably should not have as Graham missed his chances and Vorm gave Arshavin a gift goal, but they did get the three points, and all of sudden the Frenchman’s, “confidence is back now.” The Gunners’ boss added, “In our job, momentum is vital. We just want to play to win.” And play they will come Tuesday, when Arsenal travel to face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League group stage. “When we traveled to Udinese everyone expected us to win the game and we did,” said Wenger, “We want the same again.”

King Kenny believes, “There was not much more we could have done other than have that little bit of luck in front of goal.” Liverpool were defeated by a Jon Walters penalty kick, which spurred Stoke City into the top four. The Reds’ boss also commented on the officiating of the match saying, “If we continually get battered with things that are outside our control then we are not going to have much chance. Our first four league games have all had a contentious decision in them and every one of them has gone against us.”

Neil Warnock says the troubled Joey Barton was the man he wanted this summer. However, he did admits that, “If he didn’t have this baggage he wouldn’t have been signing for QPR.” Despite the new owner’s courtship of Scott Parker, the QPR manager says, “My No. 1 signing was always Joey Barton.” Warnock went on to call Barton a “classic leader” and he also believes that Barton’s new teammates will help, “keep him out of trouble.” QPR play Newcastle today and Barton will face his former club in his debut for his new one. Hopefully, Barton won’t end up like Fernando Torres has, so far, at Chelsea.

Harry Redknapp confirmed that Heurelho Gomes will most likely depart from the North London outfit come January. “He’s not happy,” said the Tottenham boss. The signing of Brad Friedel has certainly paid off for Harry and Carlo Cudicini seems the man to backup the 40 year old American. Giovanni dos Santos and Luka Modric are two players that have been seeking White Heart Lane exits. Redknapp reported that Udinese offered the club 13 million pounds for dos Santos, but the Spurs boss refused to let the player go. He also revealed that the player wanted to head for Spanish club, Seville, but their offer of 3 million euros was far too low. In other transfer news, the club is, “looking to make him [Luka Modric] a good offer.” Redknapp told the press that Daniel Levy, the club chairman, and the Croatian midfielder will hold talks about a new contract for the Spurs star.

Patrice Evra says the Red Devils, “are making it look easy,” in their opening fixtures. He also warned his teammates that they, “have to calm down,” as it has only been four games in the thirty-eight game season. “Football is like a pyramid,” Evra told The Independent, “It is easy to reach the top but to stay there is difficult.” He also praised the play of Wayne Rooney, who has been rich in form since the team’s tour of America, saying, “You can see the hunger,” in the striker.

Bryan Ruiz is pleased to be at Craven Cottage. “Newcastle were interested,” said the Fulham winger, “but I had a good feeling at Fulham and wanted to stay here.” The former FC Twente man also complemented Steve McClaren, saying he, “was very influential on me.” Ruiz started against Blackburn only to be taken off at halftime. It looks like it may take some time for the winger to adjust to the league, as he took too much time on the ball in yesterday’s match.

The Barclays Premier League is crazy. One moment you are hated and the next you could be loved. Emmanuel Adebayor became the latest William Gallas, as he scored in Tottenham’s first win of this year’s campaign. Caught up in the excitement, the Togolese striker has declared his career at City is over, despite him having another three years left on his contract with the Citizens. “Now, I want to help Tottenham. I have nothing to prove to Manchester City,” said Adebayor after the match against Wolves.

Injury News:

Kevin Davies was keen to get after the Manchester United youngsters going into the weekend’s match. It’s safe to say Davies did, as a nasty tackle on Tom Cleverley will put the United lad out of action for four weeks. Sir Alex feared his starlet suffered a broken foot, but it turns out to just be ligament damage. United will be shorthanded going into their Champions League match with Benfica. Jonny Evans is doubtful and Patrice Evra is recovering from a knock he took to his knee in Saturday’s match.

Paul Lambert says his striker James Vaughan has, “got a really nasty gash in his upper lip.” The Norwich City substitute was taken to the hospital to see a plastic surgeon after taking one of Gabriel Tamas’ elbows to the face. The incident could have warranted a penalty and a red card, but the referee missed the challenge.

Junior Hoilett assisted Ruben Rochina in his stunning goal against Fulham, but the Blackburn man would be on a stretcher 59 minutes of football later. Hoilett challenged Mark Schwarzer, Fulham’s goalkeeper, just outside the penalty area. Their head’s collided and Junior certainly got the worst of it. According to Steve Kean, who was furious after the heart-stopping collision, told the press, “Junior has got a nasty gash on the side of his head, he’s got three or four stitches and he’s got a big swollen eye.” The Blackburn man was knocked out and may have a concussion, the severity of which will determine if Hoilett will be in the Rovers squad come next weekend.

Tottenham’s Rafael van der Vaart will be back in action next weekend, when his Spurs take on Liverpool. The Dutchman was scheduled to be out for a month and a half, but he reports that he can, “do proper turns again and regular sprints.” Van der Vaart added, “Next weekend seem like no problem to me!”

Wojciech Szczesny revealed he has taken a bit of stick from his Polish teammates after United put eight past the Arsenal keeper. A few of those players that mocked the keeper are part of the Borussia Dortmund side that the Gunners will take on in the Champions League this week.

Michel Vorm said that the Emirates was “scary.” The Swansea keeper complemented the youth and talent in Wenger’s side, but says their lack of confidence is holding them back from success.

Vorm also praised the confidence that Manchester City has, and nobody has more confidence in his play than Sergio Aguero. The striker is looking to revive the club similar to the way Diego Maradona led Napoli to the scudetto upon his arrival at the Italian club.

QPR vs. Newcastle United:

Joey Barton makes his QPR debut at Loftus Road. Newcastle, with a win, can earn a spot in the top four.

Misc:

Somebody in the EPL is in deep trouble and it’s not Garry Cook anymore. The Channel 4 show Dispatches says they will reveal a footballer whom tested positive for cocaine. Dispatches may also uncover the names of other players that have tested positive for cocaine and cannabis, despite those names kept a secret by the FA. This story will make a huge splash and it will surely embarrass the player who just made a multi-million pound move to a club that has no knowledge of the player’s secret.

Russia is now number one when it comes to football on the beach. Led by Dmitry Shishin, who scored three goals in their 12-8 win, the Russians dispatched former cup winners Brazil to win the 2011 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, in Italy.
