Yesterday was the quietest news day the Premier League has had since late May. With all the signings completed, all that was left to do for players was to tell their club websites how excited they were to be playing for their new team. However, there is always news concerning the EPL and of course the England team have two important Euro 2012 qualifiers coming, one being today! In today’s “Ticker,” we’ll take a look at what John Terry had to say about Manchester United players, why Liverpool need Mr. Bellamy, according to Jamie Carragher, the latest Joey Barton has to say about Newcastle, and much more. This edition also includes a preview and teams news concerning the England vs. Bulgaria match.

John Terry Wants United Youngsters in England Squad:

The captain of the Three Lions has asked his gaffer, Fabio Capello, to utilize Chris Smalling, Tom Cleverley, and Phil Jones, by giving the Red Devil lads places in the starting XI. Terry claims that three are, “very assured,” of their abilities and told the press the trio have high levels of confidence, especially after their 8-2 thrashing of Arsenal.

Jamie Carragher on LFC‘s New Signings:

The Liverpool defender praised Dalglish’s signing of the City man on Thursday. He told the club’s website, “It’s a great signing… For the last few years at Man City he has been excellent, not just as a striker but as a wide player.” Carragher went on to say that Downing, is the only winger on the side, and despite preferring to be a forward, he believes Bellamy can fill the void on the right.

On Sebastian Coates, the center-back admitted to seeing much of the Uruguayan, but that he is happy to have the 20 year old at the club. The veteran is excited about the prospect of learning a different style of defending from the South American. Some have suggested that Cortes could take Carragher’s place in the squad upon arrival. The Englishman humbly said, “You can’t think of yourself, you have to think of the team.”

Joey Barton’s Twitter:

The man likes to Tweet. It is his therapy and a great place for him to let out all of his feelings. The QPR midfielder wrote on his account, “Nice to see MA and DL come through with their promise to reinvest AC money, 59m (pound) net profit from transfers in last 5 seasons… ambition???” (MA=Mike Ashley, DL=Derek Lambias, AC=Andy Carroll) As we all know, Barton left Newcastle due to his clashes with the club’s hierarchy. Barton also claims that Tiote, Jonas, and Coloccini may be sold in January.

Alan Pardew Charged:

The Newcastle manager has been charged with improper conduct by the FA, following comments he made about Howard Webb previous to the match against Sunderland. He said, “…the ref needs to make sure he referees from a completely neutral point of view,” as the manager was concerned that Joey Barton’s presence on the pitch may generate bias from the referee of the 2010 World Cup Final.

Carlos Tevez Staying at City Long Term?

The Argentine’s representative says that his client may be staying in Manchester after all. Tevez’s wife seems to be Carlos’ main concern. However, she has finally moved to the city with him, in part to her close relationship with the wife of new City signing Sergio Aguero. However, first team time will be tough to come by, as Aguero and Dzeko have combined for nine goals in their first three games this season.

Bulgaria vs England:

Darren Bent is doubtful for the match today. The striker is suffering from a groin injury and has not trained in three days. This is a huge blow for Capello, as the forward scored three goals in three games for the Three Lions. This opens the door for Jermaine Defoe or Andy Carroll to get stuck in for England.

Fabio Capello:

The England manager is happy that today’s match will not be at Wembley. He told the press that at Wembley, “…the players find it difficult to play against teams but away we can play with more space… Sometimes we play better away from home.” The Italian inferred that the players, especially the youngsters, can be intimated by the environment of Wembley, which places loads of pressure on the footballers.

Capello is excited about the prospect of Owen Hargreaves’ career being revived. The Canadian-born’s career peaked with his fantastic performances for England at the 2006 World Cup in Germany. Whether or not the ex-United player can live up to that standard again remains to be seen, as the 30 year old defender has been injury prone as of late. Hargreaves has said that he is not in any rush to make his Manchester City debut.

He also believes this is the perfect chance for Wayne Rooney to end his goal scoring drought for the national side. Capello said, “Goals are a fantastic medicine for a forward.” Rooney has only scored one goal in the last two years for England.

The Italian is not giving any information about who will be in the side today. Capello told the press it’s interesting because he has young players with confidence along with many seasoned footballers.

My Proposed England XI vs. Bulgaria: 4-4-1-1

Goalkeeper: Joe Hart

Defense: (From left to right) Ashley Cole, John Terry, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling

Midfield: (Left to right) Stewart Downing, Gareth Barry, Tom Cleverley, Ashley Young

Strikers: Wayne Rooney playing below Andy Carroll

Bench: Stockdale, Richards, Lescott, Cleverley, Johnson, Lampard, Defoe

Prediction: Bulgaria 0-3 England

I expect Rooney to propel the Three Lions to victory with a goal and two assists.

Misc:

In other England news, the England u-21s beat up on Azerbaijan 6-0 yesterday. Craig Dawson scored two goals in his U-21, debut off of corners from Henri Lansbury. The Arsenal man loaned to Upton Park had a brace of his own. Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson scored and Martyn Waghorn hit a laser from 30 yards in the win.

Dutch winger Eljero Elia says he snubbed Arsenal on Wednesday to head for Juventus.

Bayern Munich’s Ghanaian legend, Samuel Kuffour, will have his testimonial December 23 in Kumsai, where the defender grew up. Andy Cole, Dwight York, Samuel Eto’o, and Alex Song are amongst the stars that will be seen in the match. The game’s proceeds will go to a local orphanage.

The Manchester United Supporters Trust has asked the Glazers to pay off the club’s debt. MUST cite the large amount of money the club has made in the Singapore Stock Market. The number is thought to be close to 600 million pounds (30% of the market). They would like the club to pull out of the market, pay off the debt, and reinvest the reported 110 million pounds made last year at the club.

Steve McClaren may leave Nottingham Forest soon. The former England manager is considering his future with the club, because he does not believe he has enough strength in the squad to bring the team up to the top flight. Forest have started poorly, winning just one match in their opening five. The club chairman Nigel Doughty blamed the lack of spending on the new Financial Fair Play rules of the Championship.

Video of the Day:

The England U-21s look fantastic and Liverpool’s Jonjo Shelvey was on form in training, ahead of yesterday’s match, scoring a fantastic goal.

Feel free to criticize my England XI while commenting on the day’s news, and debating whom you would put on the pitch for the Three Lions’ today.
